Universal Extras

These extras are on every Aqualon character sheet.

Elemental Attunement

A person can be attuned to up to one of the five elements. These elements are: water, fire, lightning, earth, and wind. Once attuned, it theoretically becomes possible to use magic of that type. Attunement can also be changed through meditation (which usually takes up to one year but can be accelerated with stunts).
Effect: You may use the Creativity skill to perform magic, and Fight and Shoot to attack with magic of your attuned element.
Cost: 1 Refresh (if attuned to an element)
Notes: Every character has this extra. Canceling one's attunement takes up to two sessions and frees up 1 Refresh.

Zeroth to First Stage Spellblight

A person has a soul attached to it for as long as she is alive. Opening the inner gate to the soul enables one to use magic, a power that largely comes from the Great Clockwork and that enters the soul by means of five more gates that reside inside the soul and connect it to the clockwork. The less a person is trained in opening her inner gates, the more susceptible to spellblight they are, and using too much magic at once will make the affliction break out and progress.
Effect: Place 3 additional Fate Points on this extra that do not refresh. You may, unless otherwise indicated by the GM, use these 3 points freely for any skill check or stunt use that involves performing magic. Each time you do, strands of your hair grow perfectly white until none retain their original color at 0 points. At 0 points, this extra turns into "Stage 2 Spellblight".
Cost: None
Notes: Every character has this extra in the beginning, but may opt to exchange it for a later stage, or contract spellblight over the course of playing.

Optional Extras

Second Stage Spellblight

Once your hair has fully grown white, your eyes also turn cobalt blue as blight progresses. At this point, many cultures begin to shun you as those afflicted with spellblight are thought of as unclean or soulless. Hiding your affliction may be the smart thing to do.
Effect: Place 2 additional Fate Points on this extra that do not refresh. You may, unless otherwise indicated by the GM, use these 2 points freely for any skill check or stunt use that involves performing magic. Each time you do, the cobalt blue color of your eyes intensifies until they begin to glow at 0 points. At 0 points, this extra turns into "Final Stage Spellblight".

Notes: Players may opt to start with this extra instead of "Zeroth to First Stage Spellblight".

Final Stage Spellblight

Once your eyes are a deep cobalt blue, if you still overtax your soul, they will start to glow as your blight progresses into the final stage. Overusing magic now will shorten your life-span and if you take it too far, you may contract nullsickness.
Effect: Place 2 additional Fate Point on this extra that refresh at the beginning of sessions. You may, unless otherwise indicated by the GM, use these 2 points freely for any skill check or stunt use that involves performing magic. Each point used this way imposes 2 mental stress. If you are incapable of soaking the stress with stress boxes or mild consequences, this extra turns into "Nullsickness".

Null Sickness

If you 'crack your gates' by using more magic than your body and soul can handle, your ability to perform magic fades away. Only extraordinary means can repair your damaged gates.
Effect: Reclaim any refresh spent on "Elemental Attunement" and increase your base refresh by 1. You cannot perform magic or activate magic engines.
Cost: None
Notes: Players may opt to start with this extra instead of "Zeroth to First Stage Spellblight".
