Bayou Capybara
This group of medium-sized, semi-aquatic creatures evolved in the Blackmire Swamp. They have adapted to the murky and humid environment there. Eyes are large and very expressive, helping them with keen vision in lowlight conditions.

Anatomy
These capybara look like their smaller cousins except for their size and difference in coloring.
Ecology and Habitats
Capybaras spend most of their time in the water, which is also where most of their food comes from. They are superb swimmers and divers, loving to wander throughout their territory.
Dietary Needs and Habits
They are herbivores by nature and will eat almost anything that grows in the swamp, of course staying away from poisonous plants. Eating mostly grass, fruits, nuts, roots, vegetables, and aquatic plants. They "chew a cud" like many bovines that have multiple stomachs. They have an adventuresome palate and will try anything once.

Social Structure
They call themselves the Bayuin (baa-yin) and live in close-knit herds, with strong social bonds. They have a sophisticated language, using vocalizations, body language, and pheromones to convey messages. Excelling in problem-solving allows them to navigate the ever-changing terrain of the swamps at need.
Their communities are led by wise female elders with a matriarch in charge (she is not always the eldest). Only the wisest and well-tempered males are allowed to hold office.
Uses, Products & Exploitation
They are often hunted for their meat, fat, fur, and leather. However, their friends, the Bayou Halflings would never betray their trust like that.

History
The first of the Bayuin were washed down the Beverson Rill (river) from the north into the Blackmire swamp so they settled there. It took them years to adjust to living in the swamp, before they arrived here their territory was a river delta with interconnected ponds and channels.
