County
A County is a region of a country that is overseen by a Count, Viscount, or Earl. This is often also the term of the area surrounding a small town. A county encompassed multiple shires and the land surrounding them as well. A county may also be subdivided into districts, townships, cities, villages, or other municipal areas.
Commonly counties named with an -s on the end mean that it used to have -shire at the end. For example Berkshire, Shropshire, Buckshire, for simplicity's sake the -shire ending is often dropped. Another way to name a county is to add -borogh/burg to the end of the name, the prefix is oven the Count's name, then adding suffix at the end of it. For example Edinburgh. Another naming convention is "County of Kent", again the Count's surname.
