Harvest Home Festival Cookoff
The tree gnomes have a yearly festival in the Autumn that is based around cheese, bread, and alcoholic beverages (usually cider, mead or ale).
Every family can enter one of each type of material, be it bread, cheese, or beverage. Many famous items are started at this festival. Some of the recipes are centuries-old family secrets, others are brand new, but soon become favorites.
Each culinary category is split up into basic, traditional, and fanciful. Youngsters can even compete in their own age-groups, but their drinks are rarely alcoholic.
The whole family is allowed to research and assist in the creation of the dish, but only one is allowed to do the majority of the work and present it.
Many other items have been known to be prepared to complement the dishes, such as side dishes and barbeque meats (sausage is especially popular). They also have a barbecue festival at the Midsummer celebration.
People from far and wide, come to visit this festival and sample its wares, but only residents are allowed to enter the contest
History
This festival began as a cookoff between two soon to be joined families. They were trying to decide on the dishes and drinks to be served at the wedding feast. No one could decide, so they decided to make and try each dish. They had so much fun, that they decided to expand it and do it every year.
The judges and guests liked it so much that they joined in. The local priestess decided to add it to her harvest ritual, so the date was moved to coincide with it.
Execution
There aren’t many official rules.
- Each culinary category is split up into basic, traditional, and fanciful.
- The recipe has to be your own but can be a variation of someone else’s.
- Bread has to be prepared during the festival, depending on when it is to be judged.
- Cheese and alcoholic beverages can be aged from months to 5 years in advance, to allow them to age properly.
Observance
The ritual is observed starting the week before and culminating on the day of the autumn Harvest Festival.
