The Prophecy of the Shattered Veil
In the dawn of time, when the world was young and magic flowed freely as water, there existed a delicate veil between the mortal realm and the shadow planes. This veil was woven of starlight and dreams, a shimmering barrier that kept the cosmic forces in balance.
The veil is guarded by the Eladrin, ancient beings of pure light, who tirelessly weave and mend its fabric. They had a prophecy that whispers of a time when darkness will seep into the heart of the veil, corrupting its essence. This darkness, born of primordial evil, will grow until it consumes the veil entirely, plunging the world into eternal night.
With a shattered veil, the boundaries between realms will collapse. Demons, spirits, and other denizens of the Shadow Plane will pour forth, seeking to claim the mortal world as their own. The skies will darken, the earth will tremble with the footsteps of cosmic horror, the waters will be poisoned, and all will face their ultimate trial.
Only a chosen one, born of starlight and shadow, can hope to prevent this catastrophe. He will possess a power unlike any seen before, a power to heal the veil and banish the darkness. But he must first endure trials of unimaginable hardship, he had to face his own demons and the wrath of the cosmic forces.
Historical Basis
This didn't turn out to be the end of the world, but it was for the southern continent of Teranik most of the continent was corrupted after a wild magic storm during the The Chaos Wars tore open multiple Rifts that weakened the walls between the Plane of Elemental Chaos, Plane of Shadow, and the Cinder Wastes.
Most of the overshadowing had to do with the Plane of Shadow and the Plane of Elemental Elemental Chaos: Sea of Fire, Cinder Wastes, the Swamp of Oblivian, and the Mud Hills. The Ethereal Plane and the Shadowfell also intersect the Material Plane, but they are not trying to take over the world.
