Transport Gates
One of the technologies that allowed the Atlantean armies to move quickly from one place to another, was their transport gates. With access to the Main computer, they could travel anywhere on Aquatica as well as their homeworld and anywhere in-between. Everywhere they have set up a base, they establish relays to access this network. Some of these relays are even in space or on asteroids to allow travel by large ships.
They lost most of this ability when Mother took over the main computer on their Homeship. Afterward, they were only able to use their smaller gates that were operated by portable control units. This limited the size of their units going through, the weight, and the distance traveled. These portable gates were not linked to the main computer but had their own built-in memory. Only 20 locations can be programmed at a time, with swappable memory cores.
When the Chaos Wars finally turned against them, and they decided that they were losing, many jumped ship and abandoned the outpost here. This Mother allowed as they were leaving Aquatica.
The Atlanteans that didn’t leave quickly enough were stranded here far from home. A few of these tried to make it to the nearest relay station to get home. Only a few stayed here, some to help rebuild, many were imprisoned because of their war crimes.
Utility
Originally they were used for exploration and colonization. Later they became tools of conquest and exploitation. The later was the cause in the split between the Atlanteans and Astralus.
Access & Availability
The gates are accessible to anyone with the skill to use them, some are passcode because they lead to secret or very important research sites.
Discovery
Not many even remember where the transport gates came from. The legend is that the first gate was created in concert with the Astralus before they ascended. After the first was created, many others followed soon afterward, and the technology was perfected along the way.
