Mie Saiban
The Mie Saiban, or the Three-Fold Trial' is a ritual undertaken by the The Ashen Knights of Zandaka Temple.
Observance
Before the Trial, inductees prepare themselves by a period of fasting. Shortly before the Trial, they are given a special tea.
They are then taken to a sacred charnel cave where they are tested through each of the disciplines of the Ashen Knights: The Way of the Body, The Way of the Mind and the Way of the Soul. These tests are conducted by a spiritual advisor, who is both teacher, examiner and friend throughout the trial.
At the end of the Trial, there path is declared.
Karu's Mie Saiban
Karu's first trial was conducted rapidly whilst his master was absent. Arawn later reveals to Karu that this was a false trial and he needed to undergo it again. Karu's second trial took place on the island of Pala, in the Caves of the Ancestors in the place of the sacred Charnel Cave. This trial was remarkable in that Arawn herself took part as the spiritual guide. Karu received visions of former teachers, his friends and his goddess, and emerged a master of the Way of the Soul, with an instruction to find a new balance.
