Session 14: Wave Echo Cave

General Summary

Entering Wave Echo Cave

At the entrance of Wave Echo Cave.   Dead dwarf in the entrance. Thardin, Gundrun Rockseeker's brother is laying there. Still 1 brother unaccounted for, Nundro.   Part of the cavern collapsed and there's a pit. Rough hewn tunnel leading NW and E.   Thoradin inspects. The dwarf was slain via weapons.   How long was Gundrun gone ? About 2 months.   Cernan and Cita search near the cliff.   Stormy Smoking Mountain and Northern Star search and sniff and try to detect.   Cernan sees footprints, some boots/non dwarf. Likely searching. Mostly went north.   This cavern connects to the mines. The original opening was gone.   Thoradin son of Thorlum offers to help cover Gundrun's brother and protect his body. Gundrun offers boots with wings on them and they resize automatically. (boots of striding and springing - speed to 30 ft. jump 3x the normal distance.)   We all feather fall to the bottom. Big boom. WAVE echo cave. Used to be a river. We follow the footsteps to the north.   We are now in the mine. Stormy is too tall for doors, etc. She has to walk in the middle incase she knocks herself out.   Every 10-15 min, we hear the wave crash. It seems to come from everywhere. We keep moving. Webs! (Etching arrows on the wall.)

 

FIGHT

Something is stalking us. Shimmer and Rashid find a gelatinous mass. (Stormy wants it as a pet.)   [Rashid, first hit] Jelly fights back. Does acid damage too. Splits in two after Thoradin cleaves it in half. Oof.   Cita gives Rashid healing potion.   Stormy will collect the acid with the healing potion bottle. She is sad that she couldn't keep it as a pet.   Stormy gives rashid 7 goodberries to be back to health. [3 left]   Tunnel opens up into a room. Pictures of Dwarf and Gnome miners together. Orc and dwarf remains. Thoradin examines the pillar - has words. "Dorahn Sharstone Hammerkeeper" - left Ballheim way back at the beginning.   Rashid checks out the lanterns.   10 sturges appear from the ceiling. Groan. [Thoradin first kill] After we take them out. Cita is shaken and drinks pumpkin hooch to forget it. Thoradin checks the room entrances. Some are carved and some are natural.   Dorahn's tunnel - carved. Cave in was original entrance. We rest in that area.   The doors: short and wide for dwarves.

 

Guard Room

Next room: refuse of battle - dwarves and orcs. The bones rise up. Skeletons. [Cernan casts turn on them.] We pick them off. [Stormy takes one out with Shimmer in one turn.] Chew through them.
