The Amlakkar

Amlakkar are the basic city guard of each major Calishite city. These indentured servants and slaves all answer to a sultan in each city, like other arms of the military, but their branch of the armed forces has the lowest status.

Structure

The amlakkar serve as the police within each of the drudachs. Each drudach has at least a dozen amlakkar under a captain. The captain is often the only one to report to their superiors. Most often he reports to the sultan’s vizars. He also reports to the local druzir often. While an amlak’s primary duty is to keep the peace and enforce the Pasha’s laws within each drudach, they are often mobilized by Sabbalads to deal with inner city threats. The headquarters/barracks for the amlakkar of each druzir was known as an amlakkhan. A typical amlakkhan was two stories tall and built at the intersection of drudach walls. The upper levels had balconies from which amlakkar could observe activities, firing arrows down on criminals if necessary. The first level contained prison cells and the barracks; the second level contained the quarters for the officers and the armories.

Assets

A typical amlakkar force would be outfitted with scimitars, flintlocks, muskets, daggers, and nets. Amlakkhan usually also contained an assortment of magical items, for example, magical scimitars or flintlocks or wands of paralyzation or lightning.
