Aramanth

25th of Steel's Descent, 495 FE

Created by

There was a time in the galaxy when ancient peoples of godlike power and unfathomable minds ruled across uncountable worlds. These beings wielded power over magic and tek beyond understanding. Extending their will over the very laws of existence themselves. How or why these beings disappeared, or even how many they were, is a mystery to those who even know to ask.   Evidence of these Ancients' existence can be found ground into the dust or floating through the void, but upon the world of Aramanth, those remnants run through to its very core. Beneath Aramanth's indigo sky, one can find ruins marking the Ancients' existence within a day's travel of any settlement. Of course, scant few would dare venture into these places, and fewer still would know how to use what they found there.   Ancient technology doesn't just suffuse the earth, but it runs through the very air. Layers upon layers of complex fields radiate across the planet, forming an incredibly powerful dimension of power called the Deep Field. Those skilled can learn to manipulate this field to perform acts of power equivalent to the mightiest sorceries. Machine gods, dimensional ghosts, alien mutants, all can be found upon Aramanth.   For an eon a singular empire ruled Aramanth, establishing islands of law and stability on a world that contained neither. For millennia the Eternal Commonwealth maintained and solidified itself under centuries upon centuries of ritual, bureaucracy, and military might, even as ancient knowledge faded with the winds of time, and their great works of infrastructure buckled in the shadow of the millions-years-old ruins that surrounded them.   This equilibrium was shattered with the invasion of the elves, coming from across the void with an empire of a hundred worlds at their back. The war nearly broke the Commonwealth, and likely would have were it not for the aid of an elven traitor turned messiah to those who fought under her banner. A messiah who gave her life to save her adopted world and her brethren who joined her in turning against their off-world empire and goddess.   The Commonwealth survived the war, but it spanned the world no longer. Now, centuries later, wild lands grow wilder, and new nations rise in the vacuum of power left by the war. Faiths old and new have risen to prominence and ideals shift with the wind.   Now, governments, organizations, and the great empire of old vie for power and influence amid the wilds and wastelands that cover Aramanth. Explorers seek out corners of the world forbidden by Imperial decree for thousands of years, seeking new forms of tek and magic to grant their benefactors advantage against one another.   And somewhere, the Ancients still sleep, their very dreams shifting reality around them. Strange beings and aberrant machines walk the wastes, moving ever closer to settled lands. Only time will tell what shall befall the peoples of Aramanth in this chaotic age.
