The Scarlet King

The King of the Darkness Below (a.k.a. The Crimson Monarch)

"You. If you wonder at me, your fear is mine. If you fear me, your solace is mine. If you find solace in me, you are mine. Beware the tongue that cradles and the hand that wields me."

  • The Scarlet King, also known as The Lord of the Throne of Despair, or Scarlet Archon is a being of myth and legend that is only spoken about in hushed whispers, or by arrogant scholars who believe they understand him and his motives. The theories of the Scarlet King's identity are numerous. The simple folk of the world believe him to be some sort of devil is the heart of all darkness in Arameia. Scholars believe him to be an ancient and powerful wizard. Some believe he is one of the Dark Gods' avatars. In the Supposition of Divine Origins written by the mad scholar Thellar Crym, he theorizes that the Scarlet King is the Goddess, returned to see what her world has become and is so disgusted by this that she seeks to destroy it. There is no definite proof of the Scarlet King's origins, but many terrible acts have been done in his name. Groups have appeared across Arameia dedicated to his dogma, which is to usher chaos.   None know just when the Scarlet King came into existence, there are questions of whether he was birthed into the world or simply manifested as an essence of terror. Most scholars who attempt to research further into the Scarlet King slowly go mad, until they are imprisoned or simply disappear. The Archmage Kellitus of the Kingdom of Ergoth was the foremost expert on the Scarlet King. One day Kellitus' arrogance led him to complete a scrying ritual on the Scarlet King. He scribbled a drawing as quickly as possible before dying of unknown causes.   Historical scholars who still research the nearly-forgotten history of The Travelers, those who came from a dying world to settle on Arameia, believe that the Scarlet King is one of these travelers, perhaps a hero who fell to the corruption of their dying world, or were simply driven mad by their home world's destruction.
