The Hunger of the Sands
In the vast and unforgiving desert, there are tales of dunes that wander. Not driven by wind or fate, but by a hunger that is both ravenous and insatiable. These dunes have overtaken caravans, settlements, and even oases, leaving behind only a trail of destruction and despair.
The few survivors of these encounters tell incoherent tales of dunes as high as four or five men, accompanied by a strange, chittering sound that grows louder as the dune approaches. When it finally reaches its victims, it crashes into them with the force of an ocean wave, burying them alive never to be seen again.
Some say that the dunes are cursed, possessed by the angry spirits of the desert. Others believe that they are a manifestation of the desert's hunger, a force of nature that is both wild and unpredictable. Whatever the truth may be, one thing is certain: If you spot one in the distance, pray to whatever gods you have.
