Gnomes
Gnomes are seen as almost the opposite of dwarves in many ways. They also are the only other race to have a lifespan that rivals an Elf. They have developed a deep fascination with the arcane and the world it's self. This being said this has resulted in a negligent development of their technology. They have gained a means to explore outside their home, but this has come from outside assistance. They are far from being refined as well, meaning that their ships are seen as mostly undesirable to those not working on a tight budget.
They are a very content people seeing things as the way they are. They will move to act if something threatens them as a whole, but will otherwise let situations work themselves out. This mentality has, of course, lead to many problems escalating to unfortunate sizes, mostly because no initiative was taken.
The Gnomes are respected for their expertise with magic but that is about it. They are usually seen as being unorganized and weak which has resulted in them being attacked on several occasions and in most cases had to seek aid from other races which has resulted in them having to divulge some of their secrets or lose the small territory they have.
The gnomes are lead by a Council that exists to govern for the good of their people. This Council would sadly be deemed laughable in some regards though, as they meet to ensure everyone is happy enough and that an entire city is not burning down or that they're not being invaded and then go on their way. And discussions on city developments, relationships with other races or pushing advancements in research fields are almost glossed over entirely.
Gnomes tend to stick close to home due to the fact the larger races often forcing the gnomes to do their bidding. Mostly by physical means. This isn't to say gnomes can't be found outside their homes. They tend to have good relations with the dwarfs and moderate relations with elfs and humans.
When it comes to war the gnomes are incredibly docile. they will fight if they think they're getting attacked but they have never gone out of their way to start a war. At least not that any race has been able to record.
Religion is fairly uncommon in Bigland. While some do put their faith in the gods, most gnomes tend to believe in science and the arcana.
