Anima

Properties

Material Characteristics

It appears similar to a flame when in its raw state in the open however rarely is it seen as such. Mostly it is bottled and controlled given how important it is to those that consume it.

Physical & Chemical Properties

It feels warm to the touch almost like a very smooth honey

Geology & Geography

Anima technically can be found in any living creature, the purity and amount of anima stored by a creature are governed by its life expectancy roughly multiplied by its intelligence.
The greatest density of anima is found within the blightfel where its inhabitants consume it for survival.

Origin & Source

Sentient life is the true store of anima, any creatures anima can be extracted through the correct processes - doing so simply takes that amount of time off the lifespan of the creature.

Life & Expiration

Anima is not known to decompose naturally, however, if not stored correctly can seep back into its environment reversing the death and decay of any living material.

History & Usage

History

Anima was the original creation of the Lichdom Oligarchy of Rhak'tosh - the first phylactery housed souls that kept the founding family alive. In repayment for their servitude, these souls were returned to the corpses of the first anima harvest.
The historical records outline the commercial purchase of 100 slaves from an auction house (the exact destination remains a guarded secret and is seen in some societies as a falsehood to cover up the mass killing of 100 beings). These beings were then the first anima subjects, allowing the founding four families and their loyal subjects a new form of undeath.
The structure of anima has evolved over the many centuries to exclusively benefit Blightarians undead nature, another point that is widely seen as a selfish act of the Lichdom given how life-sustaining the compound is.

Discovery

It was discovered by the The Founding Four by extracting life essence rather than a soul from a body creating a new form of undeath that sat between vampirism and true lichdom. It holds less risks than lichdom as well as the obvious drawbacks associated with vampirism. It's exact date of discovery is clouded in secrecy, widely speculated because if the way in which it would have first been extracted from a host.

Everyday use

It is used to sustain undeath

Hazards

If stored in large amounts and pressurized it can be volatile if not handled correctly. Rarely is anima held in sufficient quantities to cause this level of concern.

Reusability & Recycling

There is no recycling of anima, like time once spent it dissipates. Some say expended anima is exhaled through it's host and fills the air as antilife, which is why many who find themselves within the Blightfel suffer fatigue, nausea and lethargy.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Traded almost exclusively among those within the Blightfel, Anima is primarily housed within an anima case that is either directly attached to a host or within an anima-safe which are typically heavily guarded as nothing is more sacred than the time that anima provides.

Storage

Housed within anima-cases the plasma swirls violently within its housing, these cases are very sturdy and rarely break but if they do - due to the amount of energy stored with anima it is common that if an accident is to happen that an eruption will take place.

Law & Regulation

There are strict laws around the housing, transfer and exchange of anima. They are as below.
Anima may be given willingly from one owner to another either through a casing injection or direct transfer.
No more than 5 days volume can be stored on your person unless a writ of approval has been granted.
The collection of anima from living creatures is strictly forbidden, unless they are sanctioned for harvest.
