Knight

Overview

You can proudly call yourself a knight, as you have sworn oaths to achieve a certain goal. The nature of this goal is up to you, but in your eyes, it is without question a vital and honorable endeavor. Though the term “knight” conjures ideas of mounted, heavily armored warriors of noble blood, most knights in Faerûn don’t have noble blood. The goals and philosophies of knights are more important than their gear and fighting style, and so the ranks of knights contain sorts of folk who are willing to battle and die for their cause.

Features

Skill Proficiencies
You have proficiency in the History and Persuasion skills.
Tool Proficiencies
You gain proficiency with one type of gaming set or musical instrument.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write one language of your choice.
Equipment
You start with a set of traveler’s clothes, a banner displaying your personal coat of arms, and a pouch containing 10 gp.
Retainers
You have the service of three retainers loyal to you. One of your retainers is a noble who serves as your squire, aiding you in exchange for training on his or her own path to knighthood. Your two remaining retainers are commoners who care for your horse and polish your armor (and even help you put it on). Your retainers do not fight for you, will not follow you into obviously dangerous areas (such as dungeons), and will leave if they are frequently endangered or abused.
Suggested Characteristics
Your bond almost always involves the order to which you belong (or at least key members of it), and it is highly unusual for a knight’s ideal not to reflect the agenda, sentiment, or philosophy of one’s order.
