Bernadette Swiftwhistle (a.k.a. Bernie)

The previously unremarkable halfling adventurer Bernie became a hero to the people of a village at the foot of a mountain when Bernie predicted a rock slide and managed to get everyone to safety before half of the village was buried under the rocks. They never revealed how they were able to predict the rock slide, but the villagers are convinced that they have the gift of clairvoyance. However, that is not at all the case as Bernie is hiding a significant secret - they were part of the group that inadvertently caused the rock slide in the first place. 
Bernie was a part of an adventuring group and they were up in the mountains fighting a monster when one of the members used a magic ability that shook the ground, making nearby rocks on the mountainside unstable. She hadn't meant for this to happen and they were aware of the village below and what might occur should rocks fall down on the buildings below. Most of the group panicked or focused on fighting the monster, thinking that there was nothing they could do to help the villagers. 
Bernie decided that they had to try, so they used all of their magic abilities and energy to make it down to the village and get the villagers to safety before the rock slide reached the foot of the mountain. The rest of the group never came to see what had become of the village and Bernie never admitted to the villagers what had actually happened. They knew that their past friend hadn't meant to cause harm to innocents, so they protected the other members of the adventuring party they would never meet again. 
The villagers insisted that Bernie stay and they did for a time, helping with the rebuilding of the village as well as creating new safety measures against rock slides and natural disasters. After they made sure that the village was thriving and would be safer moving forward, Bernie left to have new adventures. However, the villagers tell stories to their kids of the great bard Bernie Swiftwhistle who saved their village.
