Draft Horse
Draft horses have been bred and used throughout Arbressian for thousands of years. Though there are different breeds of draft horses (for example the Aporean Work Horse, the Imelan Tundra Walker, and the Euhukoan Skystepper) they are all tall, muscular and steady horses. Some are used for farming and some are simply used to pull heavy loads across long distances, but there are many more uses for these majestic beasts.
They can also be utilised as riding horses though it can be a bit uncomfortable due to their broader backs and taller bodies in comparison to horses specifically bred for riding. Their mouths and flanks are usually not as sensitive to the pressure of the rider's legs and commands through the bit either so it can take more strength to steer them while riding.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Draft horses have large and sturdy bodies, typically broad backs and their four legs are thick and muscular. Their hooves are large and if they are only used on a farm where they walk on softer ground the hooves are typically hardy enough not to need horseshoes. Many draft horses are bred to have shorter manes but there are breeds with long manes as well.
Growth Rate & Stages
Foals can stand up and walk almost immediately after they are born, though unsteady at first. They can gallop around an hour after the birth. Horses grow until they are around four years old, though some breeds mature faster. At the ages of four to fifteen is when draft horses are trained and used for their respective work. Once a horse reaches fifteen they typically become stiffer, though with proper care and feed this can be delayed. A draft horse's typical life span is 25-30 years.
