Firble Gemcutter

Captain Firble Gemcutter (a.k.a. Captain Cutter)

Charismatic, charming and highly persuasive is how most people would describe Captain Cutter. He would have to be all of those things as a deep gnome who made his way from the Underdark and out on the open seas to become a renowned pirate at such a young age. His name is spoken with begrudging respect even by merchants and sailors who have fallen victim to him in the past.

Personal history

Firble was born in the Underdark but he never felt at home there. He kept longing for the surfaces and places where he could gaze out over a large distance and see the horizon. This made him somewhat of an outcast in society and even in his own home. He left his family at a very young age to seek his way to the surface and adventure. 
Along the way he often had to resort to stealing to survive, especially once he reached the surface. He was proficient in hunting and gathering but he wanted a more comfortable and yet adventurous lifestyle. Luckily he had a knack for pick-pocketing as well as for charming people into buying him food and drinks. 
Surface life was fun for Firble but during his travels he ended up in a coastal town and the idea of travelling out on the open ocean appealed to him. So he sneaked aboard a trading vessel which was due to head out to another continent and lived on the ship as a stowaway for weeks. It wasn't as convenient as he would like to see the expanse of the ocean as he had to sneak around and make sure that none of the crew spotted him. 
In another lucky turn, the ship he was on was boarded by pirates. While the pirates where grabbing the cargo to bring it over to their ship they discovered Firble. Firble explained that he was a stowaway and he was quite skilled at both stealing and wielding weapons, and he asked if he could join the pirate crew. The pirate captain and their crew were charmed by Firble, much like many others had been in the past, and agreed. 
Pirate life was exactly what Firble had thought it was going to be and he was happy with his life. Only after a year or so as part of the crew, he found himself wanting more. So he started to sow seeds of discontent towards the captain in his crew mates and soon enough there was a mutiny. The captain was killed and the rest of the crew unanimously wanted Firble to be their new captain. He put in token protests but then "humbly" accepted his new position. 
Not long after his new role as captain he became quite infamous as he had a knack for boarding trading vessels with minimal damages to ships and crew, and he charmed quite a few sailors into joining him. However, if anyone tried to cross him he would show no mercy.
