Priesthood of Erathis in Euhukoa Empire
Erathis is one of the Creator Gods of Arbressian and is the goddess of law and civilisation. As such in places where worship of the prime deities in particular is prevalent, priests of Erathis are not only seen as religious figures but also as upholders of law. Such is the case in Euhukoa Empire where older and well educated members of the clergy serve as judges in a court of law and it's not uncommon for priests of Erathis to be asked to step in as mediators in conflicts between people, trusted to give impartial and just solutions. Some priests of Erathis are also inventors, trying to come up with new things that can further civilisation.
Structure
There is a head priest/priestess serving in every temple across Euhukoa Empire but the high priest in the capital, Imperos, is regarded as the foremost leader and is instead called High Priest. The high priest is elected based on achievements and seniority and doesn't have to have served in the temple of Imperos specifically but it is preferred if they have for at least a couple of years. Head priests are often the oldest and longest serving member of the clergy in that particular temple.
Acolytes are trained for at least five years and learn both the religious aspects and the laws of the empire before they can become priests. Once they become ordained into priesthood some still choose to further their studies in law or other aspects of civilisation to better serve their temples and their goddess.
Clerics and paladins of Erathis hold a special position; they don't have to train to become priests or even be part of the priesthood of Erathis but they are honoured and treated as such when they visit temples and shrines across the empire. Should a cleric or paladin choose to serve at a temple in their lifetime or take an official position within the clergy it is highly likely that they will at some point become High Priest if they accept title.
