Bacroyce
In the South of Arburg, Bacroyce is what it is today because of the Mermaid Cyclone. (See History below for further details). It is the only Arburgian settlement to have tapped into geothermal power, and they use it to run their town.
Pronunciation
BUH-kroyce (BUH and in 'bundle'; kroyce as in 'boy' and 'ice' put together as boyce)Infrastructure
They are home to the famous Arburgian blast furnace, and although other places in Arburg have blast furnaces, theirs is the most successful, reulting in iron being a big trade material.Industry and trade
They are quite the tourist attraction for their hot springs and Geothermal Power Production. They export iron and little amounts other standard materials like wool, meat and crops. They have some famers - mixed - that are both subsistence and commercial.History
Despite being near the coast, Bacroyce wants nothing to do with the ocean. In fact, they want very little to do with water sources. Their famous hot springs are the only real exception to that. Almost all the Bacroycians are terrified of the ocean, thanks to the Mermaid Cyclone of 134 (see here for further details: Mermaid Cyclone ). The cyclone hit Bacroyce very hard. At that point it was a small, unnamed coastal village that had started with an emigrant family from Eflaria. After the cyclone, they decided that they only way they could truly survive was if they withdrew from the coast, which is what they did. They turned to industry on land, and really began to thrive, even more than before.Hot Springs
Their hot springs are not just there to invite tourists to swim in their clear, soothing waters. In fact, the hot springs are Bacroyce's power source. The steam from the water turns a turbine that can power a variety of services. (see Geothermal Power for more details on power production.)The two major springs are found to the NE and NW of Bacroyce. The North Eastern one is fed by four different sources, and the hottest one provides power (and it is is slightly separated from the other three). The three minor ones are around 30-40 degrees Celsius, which makes it great for swimming. A small wall has been built on one end, which acts as a dam to form a large, waist-deep pool, which they call Doen.
The other pool, called Saren, is hotter and shallower. This means less tourism and more power production surround this pool. It is fed by one source, and forms more of a pond than a pool, really. In Zithust (see Seasons, the water can get to an unbearable temperature of 60 degrees. in contrast, Doen's maximum is 40 degrees.
An inn (the Doen Inn) has been built nearby, to accommodate guests. They do tours of the power plant, and the springs are open to swim in all day.
