The Grand Hall
Once a judicial hall, now an orphanage that provides shelter to many children. Located near the heart of the capital, Eflaria, it is another piece of Hanna Lynn's legacy that she left behind. It still carries the name of the building that it was before; it never managed to shake that. No one ever really bothered with coming up with a new name.
Purpose / Function
Before the Grand Hall was redone, Eflaria had few orphanages. Most orphans were forced to live in the streets, simply because the few facilities that did exist weren't able to house them all. The Grand Hall now houses over 90% of Arburg's orphans, and orphans now get sent to Eflaria to be housed there. Funded by the government and a few generous upper class sponsors, it provides the children with place to sleep, socialise and have three warm meals per day. Besides the schools that Hanna Lynn founded, this is probably the biggest successful change that she influenced.
Alterations
In order for it to become a suitable children's home, there were quite a few changes that had be done to the building. Almost all of these were interior, besides the bit of touch-up work that had to be done to the facade. Most of the high-ceiling courtrooms had to be redone to allow for more rooms, with more floors, doors and windows being added in. Now, it is split into two main dormitories, with the common rooms such as the kitchen, dining hall and social hangout rooms being near or in the middle of the building. The whole renovation project took four years to complete.
History
Today, it serves as an orphanage, but the Grand Hall wasn't always a safe place for fate-stricken children. Before the year 156AY, it served judicially. Trials, weddings and hearings were all held here for many years. In 130AY, however, another building like it was built on the outskirts of Eflaria, so that a judicial building was nearer to the palace. After this new building was built, most of the events took place there, which meant that the Grand Hall kind of fell out of use. Hanna Lynn came into the picture in the 150s, and she saw how derelict it had become, and she had an idea - to turn it into an orphanage. When she proposed the idea in 152AY, it wasn't hard for her to get the project started. She wasn't the only one who had noticed the building's decline, and it had become an eye-sore for Eflaria and Arburg.
