Giant Folk
... exiles of the frozen lands, former lives abandoned, endure their growing pains!
" Young Ptolla came down from the mountains as fleet as her feet could carry over snowscaped hills. "They're coming!" she shouted from the grottoes! "They're coming!" she burst from the valleys! "They're coming!" she screamed at the edge of the Vala, "Gi' Gast Falc! Gather the Spears! Gi' Gast Falc! Gather the Slingers!"
Just as she announced their arrival, large boulders of ice and stone hurtled through the air, plummeting with a splash of snow through the domed roofs of Snow Domiciles. Their contents and furnishings spilled forth into the narrow paths of the village as Folk scrambled to flee the chaos.
Above the ridge, dark shadow-men stood as tall as the mountains behind them, horns piercing the skies, as their cold, familiar eyes bore down upon the place of their birth. The Giants had come to raid. "
Towering above the land, Giants are known for their immense size and weight. Affected by the Titanothage disease, Folk pass abnormal genetic markers to their offspring, resulting in the Gi' Gast Falc, among early Mystomythians.
The exact catalyst of this transmutation is unknown. Aging slows dramatically in the afflicted, extending Lifespans but it causes increased appetite, loss of sanity and memories. Initially exiles, Giant Folk form powerful social hierarchies, often dominating other Cultures.
About Giant Folk
Exploring the Folk History of Giants
Giant Folk emerged due to Titanothage, which decimated early Mystomythian populations. Originating with the Myth Folk of the Northern Expanse, it spread to their Southern relatives, Myst Folk. The exact cause of this magical disease is still unknown. Some speculate it resulted from prolonged exposure to Light Source or Sizing Magic, contaminating the Mystomythian Blood. However, Titanothage affects Beasts, Birds, Fish, Plants, Reptiles and Insects, making it a pervasive and mysterious affliction.
Titanothage slows aging but causes rapid cell growth, extending Lifespans at the cost of mental faculties. Increased appetite accompanies growth, as the body requires more nutrients. The brain doesn’t grow evenly in initial stages, leading to memory loss, emotional instability, and eventual madness, often lasting for hundreds of years. Mystomythians adopted the practice of abandoning elders showing signs of Titanothage, leading to the first Giant Folk.
Humanoids eventually developed immunity to Titanothage as oxygen levels changed in later Epochs. This occurred after the explosive growth of the Green Zone Age; this Age affected the Giant Folk even more, causing new groups to form. The Titano sub-group of species resulted from genetic markers still found in their host species. These creatures exceed their natural Lifespans by nearly 30%.
Giants thrived long after Titanothage weakened, as the deleterious mental effects wane and normal brain functions return.
Source Giants & Corpus Giants
Three types of Giants formed in the early Mythic Epoch: those from the Myth and Myst Folk, and later, Proto-Humanoids, all affected by Titanothage's mutations. Their Cultures would evolve into the following Giant species:
Cloud Giants
Cloud Giants are agile climbers and runners, living atop mountains or elevated plateaus. They possess powerful elemental Magic, centered around Geomancy and Verdemancy spells of rain and thunder storms.

As a result of the magical contagion that created them, most Giants develop an affinity to a form of Source. Cloud Giants are attuned to Bolt Source, whereas the Ice Giants are attuned to Cold Source. Rock Giants possess no natural affinity to Source. This distinction seperated the Giant Folk into two major groups: the Source Giants and the Corpus Giants. As it relates to the Giant Folk as a Culture, Source Giants are considered to be those who directly descended from the Mystomythians or Giant Folk stock. They consider themselves "True Giants". Corpus Giants are outside of these groups, and rarely possess strong affinities for Magic, like their Giant Folk cousins. Instead, they must develop Magical Disciplines on their own.
Giant Folk formed from the remnants of their predecessors in the Mythic Epoch, having developed unique Cultures and customs. Despite their differences, all Giants share a common origin and a legacy marked by the mysterious Titanothage, a testament to the enduring power of Magic and the relentless progression of Time.

10th Article of Summer Camp: Complete! Ok. So when the prompt says, "Species larger-than-life", and I've been building a Culture of Giants in the background, then yup, here there be Giants lol! I think it's horrifying, honestly. Growing old and knowing you're coming to the end of your Life is one thing, but you never know if in that old Age you're going to transform into something terrifying; a monster amongst your friends and family! I will admit that the Titanothage mirrors the effects of dementia, which is sensitive as a subject, but ultimately, this was an interesting and somewhat emotional means of creating Giants and giving them a unique, rich history. I think I'm rly going to enjoy diversifying their groups in the Future. Since I assume Arc Sagas may be used with DND or Pathfinder (or vice versa, hey- why not use Arc Sagas material in your next game : P ) I attempt to keep the universe similar to something familiar, such as Forgotten Realms. I'm certainly looking forward to coming back to Giant Folk and expanding on this concept!
How's Summer Camp going? I'm 10/32 currently for the Diamond Prompt! So, let's move on to that new Article and keep em coming! I know I can do this!
