Scrivener
"As eloquently as this page was written, you'd think it was done by hand!"
A Scrivener is a magical quill which acts like the Amanuensis spell, except there are modified applications for its use which makes it a popular and affordable tool. Many artists are respected for the work that they publish with the Scrivener.
Scriveners are not only able to work as a tool for writing and drawing on empty canvas but it is also able to apply itself as a stylus for the purposes of work performed on a graphics tablet or plate.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
For a duration of hours equal to your PSY Modifier + 1, the Auto- Scribe can be activated to create documents and drawings for the owner. Acting upon the will, the owner must Focus or they may make errors in the creation. The owner can reserve the energy of the magic, allowing it to replenish throughout the day at a rate of 1 hour recovered per 1 hour rested. Successfully activating a Scrivener is 1 Action.
FOCUS DC: 15 (+ 5 DC per extra Scrivener used in the creation of the document, to a maximum of your PSY Modifier).
Manufacturing process
To prepare the ink, an Enchanter attunes their energies to the ink. Shed the tip of the quill or pen desired for the Scrivener. While the instrument is touching the ink within the ink well, the Amanuensis spell is concentrated into the head of the pen and begins to conform to the ink. With continuous concentration, the ink within the well accumulates into an absolutely finite point at the head of the pen. The ink is now ready to be applied and the Scrivener can be used. This consumes the ink within the pot; recycle pot.
History
When Macromancers started exploring the application of the "Auto- Scribe" (otherwise known as Amanuensis) spell, the Scrivener became a popular choice due its state as a tool. Casters were able to reserve their magic for other spells.
The reason Amanuensis is considered a spell of antiquity is due to the invention of the Scrivener. While that spell still has its applications, (a Caster can use an Amanuensis on a seperate page to create a copy, for example) most people prefer the accessibility to the Scrivener to the disciple of Macromancy. The Scrivener is favored by people of all ages, making it the most desirable writing instrument.
The most common use of a Scrivener is as a pen. The Scrivener can create documents based on the owner's . This allows the owner to keep their hands free while manipulating the pen. It can take dictations, notes and it can recreate your work. A Scrivener can't be used in the form of Art to recreate other people's work. However, forgeries can be made of people's writing; by reading the text, the Scrivener transcribes the copy. Successful forgeries require SUBTERFUGE Proficiency checks (DC 10 + Varies; see SUBTERFUGE) which includes the required focus needed to print a document.
In the context of spell programminng, a Scrivener might be referred to as its function, "Auto- Scribe". They are proficient in the E-S-C or "Enchanter's Source Code" which is used to create the spell matrix, networks and nodes required to enchant magical items. Installed with the understanding of E-S-C, the Auto- Scribe acts on the Caster's Will to make changes in magical items.
Significance
The invention of the Scrivener led to the creation of the Scrivener- Press. These large machines are able to facilitate the mass production of a programmed document. Magazines, newsletters, books and more can be reprinted on a Scrivener- Press.
