Earth

The birthplace of Humans and the Androids/Automatons they created, Earth is now a desolate ruin thanks to the wrath of The Old God.

Destruction

Planet Earth was officially declared a ruin in the year of 2261 AD. Between the years of 2260 and 2261, all colonies throughout Arcadia experienced an influx of immigration, and those who were not lucky enough to leave the planet perished on Earth.   Earth was destroyed by The Old God in an attempt to punish the Humans for what they had done. By creating Androids/Automatons to mimic themselves, they had harnessed a power which they should not have had: the creation of life. In an attempt to smite the humans before they could all leave the earth he had given them, The Old God decided to destroy it. In the span of a year, the Earth had become a completely desolate place incapable of hosting human life. During the next few years, the atmosphere became so harsh that it could host no life at all.   Though it would have been possible to create colonies on Earth just as it had been possible to create them elsewhere in Arcadia, humans feared more wrath from The Old God if they were to return to the ruined planet. So, the Humans now distrubuted throughout the solar system decided that they would instead turn their attention towards furthering their extraterrestrial progress and making more colonies.

Phases of Destruction

Though its destruction could very well be referred to as an apocalypse, since the majority of humans made it out alive, it is rather referred to as "The Destruction of Earth" or merely "The Destruction". The phases of the destruction were as follows:
  • Ocean levels rose
  • The Earth grew hot
  • Oxygen levels dropped
  • The sky rained fire
  • All water turned to blood

Current State

Now, if one looks down at the earth from a ship or a Moon colony, one will see a red and gray scorched planet.   Despite its desolate state, Humans have braved perilous journeys back for various supplies. The supply runs are often done by a team of mostly or all Androids/Automatons, since they don't have to breathe like their human counterparts. However, the heat can still get to their internal mechanisms, making it a dangerous journey for anyone.   After the establishment of The Order of the Living God, the Earth became an official domain of The Order, just like the rest of Arcadia. Travel to and from Earth must be authorized by a member of The Order. Violation of this carries a harsh sentence.   Everywhere else in the solar system, people remain skeptical that there are still some Humans -- and possibly Androids/Automatons -- living on Earth. The most common theory is that outlaws and other criminals somehow escape there, or that those who were left behind didn't truly die. The Order remains strong that no humans or androids remain on Earth, and if they did, they would be brought to justice by The Order for violating Universal Law.

Natural Resources

Though the majority of Earth is desolate ruins, some voyages may be made there to gather resources such as metals, rocks and sand. Old buildings may be dismantled for building materials in other colonies throughout Arcadia. Though a laborious process, blood may sometimes be taken from the oceans for the extraction of water. Before the atmosphere became too harsh to support any life at all, lumber was taken and redistributed to the colonies. Many animals were taken back to the colonies for the continuation of animal agriculture. (And yes, this means that the dogs and cats are all right.)
