Culture

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

Miengu have developed their own brand of healing spells with many are said to be extremely potent, possibly the most out of all merfolk. They were developed from ritual ceremonial festivals on the various isles in the coast. As such, it is common for miengu to become professional curates.

Common Myths and Legends

Miengu belief talks of a water nymph named Mojili who made a bet with Moto the ancestor of the Dejen haulfins over who could live on the mainland. Their competition was over who could build a fire that would last longer. In the end, Moto won the bet by having the longer lasting fire and won the right to stay in the village. Feeling the disgrace of the loss, Mojili ran for the sea and remained there for her days. As the other water nymphs took pity on her, they all came together to gift her with the power to grant any one wish. Feeling alone, Mojili used the wish to conjure her ideal partner and the two became the progenitors og the miengu.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

The physical build of a jengu tends to range from sleek and lithe to hearty and athletic. And those who wear accessories tend toward golden jewelry and other baubles commonly worn by surface dwelling counter parts, often found dropped into the water and washed up from the shoreline. That is, as long as said accessories do not hinder much from swimming.   Miengu are fond of smiles that have a little gap between the two front top teeth. For young females, the look is considered to be cute and for adult females, it can be considered an attractive look especially with full and plump lips to complement them. Its common for miengu girls to put small food pieces between their teeth in an attempt to encourage this gap.
