[Story Scene] Creation Facedown
"I'm glad I came across you. I assume you're the Patron of Destruction the Goddesses told me about. You disgust me." Embla's beautiful face was warped in a sneer.
"That's rich coming from the person who married Chaos, Miss Creation." said Finn. But in her head she was wondering why she was being called the Patron of Destruction. She wasn't a demigod.
Embla closed her eyes as if she was willing herself to be patient. "You of all people should understand the difference between Chaos and Destruction. Chaos is about new things. It is about freedom and a disregard for boundaries. There are so many people who kill, who maim and destroy, and then pray to my husband for blessings because they believe that is what he stands for." She shook her head sadly. "That is why I despise you. Because you're just like them, thinking you're doing the right thing when really you're just being..." She paused, words failing her as her anger rose. "You're the worst person I can imagine. Destruction without renewal is not acceptable. You think you are powerful enough to avoid repercussions? I will warn you once, now, to stop this. Stop destroying and I will not have to show you what Creation can do."
Finn frowned. "How can Creation possibly stop Destruction? I am your exact opposite. Anything you make I can unmake."
A patient smile smoothed Embla's face. "I don't mind teaching you how wrong you are. Come, I'll show you." She opened her hand and a small leather bag appeared tied with a string. She opened it and took out small wooden figures, placing them down gently in the grass. Finn couldn't see what they were, but she patiently waited, confident that she could handle whatever was thrown at her. Eventually Embla stepped back, holding her arms out wide like she was receiving a blessing from the sun. "I'll try not to kill you."
Before Finn could react, Embla threw her hands up and the wooden figures grew to enormous proportions in a second. An elephant, a lion, a dragon, a horse and a bull, all made out of what seemed like driftwood pieced together in a seamless puzzle. They charged, making deafening noise from their mouths and feet. Finn waited until they came close, then sank into their shadows, appearing at the side of the dragon. A touch from her hand sent the wood rotting, and the dragon fell to pieces. Before it hit the floor, she was already back in the shadows. She continued this for each one, destroying them without being touched.
"I told you-" Finn began cockily, gesturing to the piles of wood on the floor.
"Not so fast." Embla said. Finn looked where she was gesturing, and the wooden pieces had formed into three creatures, and now they were coated in stone. The elephant and lion had fused, as well as the horse and dragon. "This is what I must show you. Your powers are too weak to beat me now. If you cannot destroy their very essence, they will always return. Give up now. For the sake of yourself."
Finn stared at the statues, sizing them up. "No." she said simply, moving in to strike them again. The stone of the elephant-lion turned to sand, exposing the wood below, which also collapsed under her touch. But the horse-dragon kicked her in the back, knocking the wind out of her. The bull charged, but Finn slipped into its shadow. She appeared in the shadow of the horse-dragon, but quickly realised it had risen into the air. Its boulder-like form fell, about to crush her. She didn't have time to sink again.
A flash of red sent the stone pieces flying away and the wood burning to ashes, settling like snow on Finn. She was crouched with her hands over her head. Hearing the flames, she perked up. "Renova." she whispered.
"Renova!" Embla said louder. "What are you doing here? Why are you protecting her? You know Lady Feliss wants her dead."
"I have my own reasons." Even his tone was a mixture of defense and attack.
Embla tilted her head to the side. "I knew you would care for her. But surely Lady Feliss had told you to stop her."
"I have my own plans for Lady Feliss' goals."
Embla's eyes narrowed. "I'll be watching you. I hope you can at least teach her the discipline you excel at." She summoned her pouch again and pulled out a bird, tossing it into the air. As it grew, she grabbed onto its back and soared away. Seeing the speed, Finn realised she was going easy on her. She had plenty more Totems in her bag, and Finn had almost died.
Finn turned to Renova. "What are your... plans for me?"
Renova faced her, putting away his sword. "I want you to realise your full potential. I want you to be able to make your own decisions. The Goddesses want you to follow their plans. But that involves destroying everything you love, or killing you. I want you to make your own decisions." He moved close to her, close enough that she could feel the heat radiating from his body. A kind smile graced his lips. "Don't you want that too?"
Finn's heart melted. Of course her father would want the best for her. Of course he would allow her to carve her own path. She grabbed his hands. "I do. I really do. Thank you so much Renova. Or should I say dad?"
Renova chuckled. "You can call me whatever you want. Now come, I hope this encounter has shown you how much training you have left to go."
