Flintlocks
Flintlock, while most often refeered by the flintlock pistol, is the first firearms to ever have been developed by mortal hands. These guns, while once unreliable and effectively no better than crossbows and bows during the earlier years, proved simple to create ammo for, load - even if it took quite a while, and eventually fire with enough accuracy that putting a musket into the hands of just any peasant was still a far more viable option than gearing them with traditional ranged weapons.
Having six flintlocks rather than a single revolver isn't always that bad of an idea. You see, the revolver is more reliable both through accuracy, stopping power and takes a few seconds to reload and all, why weighing far less. Though it's not nearly as cool to spin around and fire, as the good old traditional guns. That... and being able to blow up demonic hordes with combustive rune-shots.
Common Flintlock Weapons still active to this date:
- Flintlock Pistol
Sometimes considered the old standard pistol. The flintlock was the first pistol ever made, featuring something as simple as a piece of wood, shaped into a handle and hilt which held the steel barrel bolted on top. The trigger itself smacked down a flint to a steel plate which ignites the gunpowder within the barrel. Thus proppeling out a round steel ball with a force that can pierce most light and medium types of armour. Although it's considered outdated in modern terms, the flintlock is still in widespread usage, as it's easily mass produced and thus cheap. Mostly any villager can get their hands on a cheaper exemplar as the old military ones have all been swapped out, so some can get their hands on the weapons all free, for purposes such as defending their farms from wild animals or bandits. They are also widely used by pirates, nobles and military officers all around the world. The sentimental value, or the deep intricate skill that goes down into shaping and engraving some of these guns into unique heirlooms has evolved the weapon into a high status symbol for cultural purposes. Special editions of these pistols can be priceless and an extention of some people, as a personal symbol. This comes with the downside that the flintlock has also become an assassins tool among high society. The thousands of manufacturers and millions of exemplars make it impossible to track down the watermark. It's also easy to toss the weapon aside after using it, for as long as it's a low quality mass produce. Reason being that just about anyone could have gotten their hands on it. Finally, the flintlock at times still hold up to this date. Being easily strapped around belts and bandoliers and then hidden underneath a coat, makes it a favorite among Witch Hunters. The round bullets propelled from the barrel makes it possible to carve runic shapes into the ammo, allowing spells to be fired along the bullet. These spells are often incredibly effective against monsters, especially so creatures unphased by physical violence. - Musket
A standard, nowadays reliable enough mass produce rifle with long aim and decent enough accuracy to be a viable option for large scale battles. It's not that different to the flintlock pistol, except for a far taller barrel which allows the bullet to pick up more speed and better accuracy. The larger size makes it a two handed gun, with a bit of recoil which the stock helps to supress. Muskets still to this day get most of their usage from levied milita that are too expensive to arm with better guns. These cheap infantry units are not usually used in ranged combat though, as the bayonette makes the musket far more effective in melee ranges, as the length and spear tip allows defensive formations within the units to stab enemies from a distance, while the back rows can reload for another salvo. Once again, muskets are also widely used in combination with runic bullets to devestate opponents with magical force. Once which increases far beyond the potency of the flintlock, as the increased amount of gunpowder and force generation gathers more mana into the ball. - Blunderbuss
While it does not always compare to a shotgun and is unreliable at any but close ranges, the blunderbuss is still a beast of a gun actively used in the field. Especially on ships, this weapon is still considered better than the modern scattergun as there isn't really much which can go wrong. The larger, opened barrel resembling a flintlock pistol but larger is easily seathed and one can strap plenty of them to their person, without being too weighted down. It functions by having something just stuffed inside of it combined with powder and then set alight with the flintlock mechanism. It doesn't matter much what is shoved down the pipe, be it actual munitions, silverware, rocks and there has been records of toy figurines fired to kill a perpetrator once. The easy draw and devestating effectiveness of the blunderbuss makes this flintlock another viable option against monsters. Unlike a proper shotgun, it's not expensive and can be found cheap at a gunsmith around almost any village. Loaded up beforehand, it's an effective opener against giantic foes and a viable tactic is to fire blunderbuss after blunderbuss into the enemy, while tossing them aside and running for it. - Grenade Launcher
The launcher is a flintlock mechanism weapon which has changed a lot in the past years. The first models of the hand mortar was a high recoil suicide risk which often hurt the wielders that used it, by the kickback. This was in the better cases, if the grenade didn't blow up within the cup. For a hundered years, it was used as naught more than a firework launcher due to the more simplicity and lack of recoil needed to fire off the firecrackers. As technology developed though, metalurgy and better firepower has allowed the grenades to be launched at far higher phaces at less than half the recoil. Now reliable, even though the accuracy isn't the best, has still made the weapon a favorite among riders that often dual wield these hand cannons into combat. - Marksman Rifle
A rifle which features a musket with nearly twice the length of the ordinary barrel, with a scope attachment added. These rifles are rarely found and not that effective to use within combat at all, even though the range and accuracy is quite reliable. The stopping power just isn't enough for a one shot trick that takes ages to reload and the unwealdiness of the barrel forces the user to lie down to properly fire it. Mostly, this rifle is cheap enough to allow most to get their hands on it. Hence, it's still popular among hunters. - Pistol-axe
An odd combination between a flintlock pistol or blunderbuss, shaped in the form of a handle with the head of an axe. This weapon is mostly used by the Diestrian riders as the axe is almost as reliable as any ordinary war hatchet. The shot just offers a long ranged opportunity which can be the difference between life or death. In present time, this weapon has become rather outdated though, yet are still granted to officers within the Diestrian cavalary, as it's considered a cultural symbol of bravery and heroism.
