Knighting
History
For as long as there has existed structures of power, greatness and brutality alike have had reason to spread their influence to distand lands of their reach. As no lone man or woman can ever hope to cling on to the power forever, Knightings is a tradition as old as father and son. To elevate those noble and just to steer their followers on a path of brilliance, or to grant the strong and loyal the power to conquer those weaker than themselves.
Execution
Though knightings work different for each culture, the common factor is almost always the granting of titles and some form of power or benefit granted to the one whom would swear their oath. As for how the vow is sworn differes greatly, where some have to undergo trials, others laying the flat of their blade against a persons shoulder, or in some cases it even involves drinking and hazing.
Components and tools
For a knighting to take place, there is almost always an heirloom to be given for the oathswearing. It could be a blade, an inkpot with quil, or even in current times a gun or a cane. The object is usually not that important, rather the symbolism of something material which serves as binding or contract sealed between two parties. It's also common that some form of ritual weapon, usually a plain armingsword for knighthoods, serve as a weapon to which the master knights his diciple.
Participants
Though many can attend a knighting, the two most vital roles are the master and diciple. In every case, it is up to the master to plan out the rite which is to elevate the diciple among their ranks. For the three most popular types of knightings though, religous orders tend to have a highly esteemed religious figure stand witness or aid the master in knighting his diciple. For more militant orders, it is common that the leader or a high ranking officer swears several diciples underneath their banner, while the whole brotherhood watches. For behind the curtains cermons, there is usually spies posted around the area to ensure there are no disturbances.
Observance
Knightings tend to most often happen within the headquarters of knighthoods, or within special cermon rooms within the estates of nobles. It is possible though, that the rite may be observed anywhere, as there isn't any law for it to be contained within a special area, and almost every faction have their own places where a knighting is most appropriate, though usually not necessarily a must to be held there.
