Samson "The Sage" Amare

Before we continue, it's time that I told a story. You need to know everything to trust me, and I am sorry for waiting until the last possible minute.
My name is Samson Amare. My family was lords of Ancalia, powerful individuals. I trained to be a knight of our Laoch Order. That is, until the Night Roads came and the kingdom was divided by wars and monsters. The king and much of the nobility were quickly wiped out, leaving warlords to vie for control of the kingdom.
I was one of the best of these warlords. I killed many, soldiers and civilians alike, believing my skill with the blade was the way to secure my rightful rule. Only a handful could stand as my equal. My biggest rival was Eadwulf Umber, a power hungry tyrant.
Our feud came to a head on the eve of my transformation, at the city of Binai. We vied for control of this city, and I was losing. To prevent my rival gaining an advantage I ordered my men to turn on the civilians and burn the city to the ground. Many innocents were slaughtered that day. My wife and children saw the horror from the camp just outside the city. When they tried to get the soldiers to stop, they were sliced down with the other innocents. When I returned to the camp and found them dead, I in turn killed my own men.
In this moment, knowledge flooded into me. I was given insight into their hearts and minds, seeing a reflection of myself. They merely did what they thought I would want them to do... what I would probably have done myself. In the realization of my crimes, in the horror of that moment, my apotheosis began.
I decided to walk a new path. Not a path for redemption, but a path to be better. I strive to prevent others from falling down the same hole I had fallen in. I do not seek forgiveness. I simply wish a path for Ancalia not soaked in blood.
