Vak's Journal - Labyrinth slog

Text

It’s about time I set my foot in the Labyrinth. We’re running out of places to go, and the reports I’ve heard so far have gotten me excited!

      [Later entry]
This expedition has quickly become a slog. The maze is much, much, much larger than I expected. Each pathway is numbered to allow the maze-builders to find their way while uninvited intruders get lost. I was excited for this to be a grand puzzle to test my analytical prowess; instead, it is an overabundance of dubious math. The other explorers have deduced that the numbers indicate where one is headed. For example: to travel to the south exit tunnel, one should follow paths that are divisible by 15. Paths that are not divisible by 15 do not lead to it. To discover what number pattern leads to which destination, however, one must first know which paths do or don’t lead to that destination, which requires exhaustive searching.
There are five major entrances to the Labyrinth. The other exits’ numeric patterns are less clear, but the current theory is that they use modular arithmetic: N mod X = Y. There may be other number-patterned destinations within the Labyrinth, but I have no idea how we’ll find out what X and Y will lead the way to them.
