The Dark Zone
The Dark Zone is a vast region of space that's completely empty. There are no planets or stars, just void. Any vessel that gets too close will malfunction, and should it continue onward, it will stop functioning entirely. Fortunately, it is isolated. The Dark Zone is far from any inhabited system, being located near the very edge of the Archon Galaxy. It's older than civilization, just another scar left on the universe after the Godsnight.
A number of groups, governments and private organizations alike, pursued research on the Dark Zone for some time after it was discovered centuries ago, but now all such endeavors have been abandoned due to lack of results and the dangerous environment. The Kanotak in particular had trouble getting close to, and investigating the region. Several research ships were lost to that void, never to be heard from again. Fear played at least some role in the closing of research in the area. At least one research station remains near the border to the Zone, abandoned after funding was suddenly cut off. The Dark Zone is now abandoned, with only some buoy markers around it signaling to anyone who dares get close that this is a dangerous area. In the present day, it's hardly more than a scary story.
Several myths and legends surround the Dark Zone. From void sirens calling out into deep space and luring ships to their ends, to the secret home of all dragonkind where the first dragons keep their secrets, each story is stranger than the last. Others tell of the lost home of the Titans, a fertile world that was once located at the heart of the Dark Zone before the Titans met their ends. None of these tales have anything to back them up, and the gods remain silent on the subject.
