Offhand Items and Shields

If you’re using a 1-handed weapon, you can equip one of these in your off hand. Some grant defensive bonuses, some add extra damage on top of your main weapon attack, and some do a mixture of both.

Parrying Dagger

2 aquills x quality Damage Bonus: amount you beat the target's defense by. Special: This grants its quality bonus to defending against melee attacks.

Swordbreaker

5 aquills x quality Damage Bonus: amount you beat the target's defense by. Special: This grants its quality bonus to defending against melee attacks. If you successfully beat a melee attacker’s roll with your Defense roll, you can disarm them of one weapon.

Cloak

5 aquills x quality Damage Bonus: 0 Special: This grants its quality bonus to defensive actions and grants you advantage to hit. If your Defense roll beats a melee attacker’s roll, you can blind them for one turn. This only works if you are holding the cloak in your offhand, not simply wearing it.

Buckler

5 aquills x quality Damage Bonus: if your attack beats the target's defense, +1 damage. Special: This grants its quality bonus to defending against all attacks.

Round Shield

7 aquills x quality Damage Bonus: 0 Special: While your shield is equipped, you gain advantage on defending against attacks. It also grants its quality bonus to defending against all attacks.

Kite Shield

12 aquills x quality Damage Bonus: 0 Special: While your shield is equipped, you gain advantage on defending against attacks. It also grants its quality bonus to defending against all attacks.

Tower Shield

20 aquills x quality Damage Bonus: 0 Special: This grants its quality bonus to defending against all attacks. If you go on full defense while wearing this, you are immune to all ranged attacks from a certain direction.

Pavise

10 aquills x quality Damage Bonus: 0 Special: This is not an offhand weapon or shield so much as it is portable cover. It takes 1 turn to stick into the ground. After that, you get its quality bonus against all ranged attacks from one direction. If you spend your entire turn hiding behind it, such as when reloading a weapon, you are completely immune to all ranged attacks from that direction. If you're trying to hold your pavise as a shield, it takes both hands; but when stuck firmly in the ground, it requires none.
