Session 10: The Ailment of Impess

General Summary

  • Wrapping up your conversation with a cagey Sigori, you take to the streets of the Colony Impess to await the annoinment ceremony.
  • Céad...robs an elderly woman. I guess.
  • A procession emerges from the direction of the Mundane House: 12 Gentleman Ushers follow behind a dazzling Mistress of Ceremonies cloaked in gemstones.
  • The MC produces a faintly glowing spiral dewdrop—the corloisis—and plants it in the town square, inviting someone powerful of body to perform the annointment.
  • After a moment of puzzling, you volunteer Callsign, expecting the annointment consist in a simple clobbering.
  • As he starts toward the corloisis, suddenly a thick smog shoots across the town, and the distant flapping of gargantuan wings is heard. The Tvor'ghet has appeared!
  • Shrieks ring out from the crowd, and three ghetzar emerge, their eyes focused on the corloisis dewdrop.
  • You quickly eliminate two of these evasive beasts, but the third reaches the pedestal and carves the corloisis into a pile of inert shards.
  • After neutralizing this last ghet, you pick on the connection between this "corloisis" and your langasite: piezoelectric properties.
  • Dee and Bailey produce these and begin striking them together, creating shockwaves and causing them to glow a bright orange.
  • You help each other defend against the ghetzar while the remaining Gentleman Ushers sacrifice themselves to prevent the langasite's destruction, and eventually Bailey delivers the last blow...
  • A huge shockwave throws Dee backward, and the electric field springing from the mineral flushes away the dust field. The monstrous beast in the sky lets out a low hum of pain, and the flapping of its wings falters. The colony is saved for now.

  • After collecting yourselves, the Ushers agree to lead you to an audience with the Monarch, a Tonzin named Sei'r Lowai, who has reportedly "lost her way."
  • You proceed to the mundane house and fall through a gel-like substance to the dimly lit, underground Court of the Monarch.
  • The towering Councillors greet you and permit you entry to the Monarch's chambers, despite her wishes.
  • Sei'r Lowai is an enormous queen Tonzin, shrouded at first by the curtains to her canopy bed, eight limbs sprawled out to take up as much space as possible.
  • Dee opens a telepathic link with her and is immediately struck by a din of laughter, yelling, crying and chattering all at once and all around the premises.
  • The Monarch barely engages with you, insisting that you're crowding her, that everyone but her is "sick," that she just wants peace and quiet, and eventually that you leave.
  • Noting that she seems to be afflicted with void sickness, you leave her to her solitude and discuss the situation with the Councillors again.
  • The colony cannot sustain its population without her, and an heir cannot take her place until her time is up (and, biologically, it isn't yet).
  • With no known cure, you exchange contact information with the Councillors and that's where we leave off.
