Native to the cold, fogbound world Rone, the Auyego are descended from tool-using opportunists that roamed the forests and beachside scrub of the large islands near the planet’s equator. Auyego are rather unique in the galaxy, as boron is one of the rarest elements and thus is hard to effectively incorporate into biological structures. However, their dependence on torrid, high-pressure, anoxic conditions for survival is common to several other spacefaring species, allowing them to more easily integrate into the galaxy.
Biology
Anatomy & Morphology
Auyego are compact hexapods with trilateral symmetry, using alternating limbs for locomotion and manipulation. Their endoskeleton is composed of boron nitride and their soft tissue is composed largely of nitrile, rendering them (and more broadly, their entire phylum) nigh indestructible. Their gills are packed full of lithium borohydride compounds, allowing them to absorb diatomic nitrogen directly from the heavy, hot atmosphere -a method of respiration as unique to the Ronese biosphere as boron bones.
Perception & Sensory Capabilities
Auyego have six fixed focal eyes, arranged at equal intervals around the head-dome to create a functionally omnidirectional field of view. Their hearing organs are a set of three statocyst-like organs that provide sensitivity to lower-frequency sounds in the dense air of Rone. This is complemented by the air sac vocal system, producing low-sonic and near-infrasonic vibrations tuned to the 5.2-bar nitrogen-CO2 atmosphere. The air sacs double as an olfactory system, in addition to fine chemosensory tendrils that sprout from the very crown of the head-dome.
Ecology
Geographic Origin & Distribution
The Auyego evolved on the hot, nitrogen-rich world of Rone, in a cluster of old stars in the region of the Noble Arm that borders the Cyan Sea. Rone's proximity to several primordial supernova remnants resulted in its unusual abundance of ray-formed elements like boron and lithium, giving rise to biochemical systems unlike anything else in the known universe. Due to their intensely specific environmental requirements, Auyego are not especially common in the wider galaxy.
Habitat & Survival Factors
Auyego require rather unique and specific environmental conditions to stay healthy, meaning their range of survival conditions is somewhat narrow, and far outside the common standard environmental conditions of most sophonts. Auyego must use a significant amount of personal environment control technology to interact with most other sophonts.
