Theopolis of Leng

Slaves to a dark goal

The Theopolis of Leng is a servitor plane of the Shadow. Like many of the nearby planes of the multiverse, this plane is a part of the Dragon's Domain, a set of planes believed to be under dominion of the Gilded Dragon (A.K.A. the Shadow).

About

Of all of the servitor planes of the Shadow, the Theopolis of Leng is one of the best known and feared by the peoples of Arda. The plane has a cruel reputation of traveling to Arda (and possibly other planes) with the purpose to capture or purchase slaves. With their extraplanar ships filled with victims, they return to their home plane of Leng to force these slaves into massive building projects in the vast and sweltering deserts in and around their cities. More often than not, these building projects are monuments to the Shadow or any of their other profane practices.
Most of the sources of Leng come from former slaves who had somehow escaped their hellish extraplanar bondage. Such examples are sadly few, and it is noted that the vast majority of slaves of Leng will die there. In relation, sources note there are no old or infirm slaves among the Leng's slave pens. If a slave miraculously survives into old age before exhaustion or building mishap having taken them, or if they suffer a grievous injury, they are taken away by the Men of Leng never to be seen again. Sources differ on their fates, but none are certain or charming - they range from butchery to ritual sacrifice for the Shadow.
Those who have been to Leng have describe it as simultaneous eldritch but bleak. It is said to be a land of vast deserts populated by large cities of the denizens of Leng. In between these cities lay few roads but the desert is populated by numerous strange relics and vile monuments that had been built in grand fashion that had been built on the backs of generations of slaves and then seemingly abandoned. Some sources relate that Leng is not just simply a grouping of desert cities, but instead a giant plateau, thus leading some scholars to call the plane the "Plateau of Leng". They hold at the edge of the desert lie a great precipitous drop on all sides of the desert that lead onto even more vast lands below, and only the Heavens may know what lie there...

A Man of Leng

The Men of Leng are no better than the treacherous and terrible land they come from. While they are called "men", they only have a vaguely similar appearance to the people of Arda. The Men of Leng are host to numerous dark attributes that set them apart from their Arda counterparts, including having cloven hooves for feet, lanky bodies, and hands that separate into tentacles. The denizens of Leng, especially when traveling outside the plane, will tend to wear heavy robes and turbans that disguise their true nature. In this guise, slavers from Leng will seek out slave markets, namely those of Harad. Being more powerful than most peoples of Arda, they will also frequently simply take slaves from poorly-defended or isolated villages.
On Leng, these slaves will face atrocious conditions with little hope of escape. Not only are they in the far and isolated plateau, but also on an entirely different plane of existence, further complicating any escape efforts. The vast majority of slaves will work under the sweltering sun of the plane, quarrying stone or building great monuments in the desert with little food, water and terrible exposure. The slaves of Leng are forced to follow the precepts of the Shadow which are inscribed in numerous languages throughout the plane which preaches salvation through their own slavery.
The Men of Leng follow a theocracy; a rule by religious clerics of the Shadow. Clerics hold significant power on Leng, such as ordering the slaves, directing the slavers, and holding services for the faithful denizens of Leng or the minority of fetchlings who live as envoys on the plane. The most powerful of these clerics is what has been frequently been named as the "High Priest Beyond Description", who is rumored to look like the other Men of Leng, but is supposedly something eldritch and different entirely.
