Makwa

What the Danatelians think of as magic. It is difficult to pin down exactly what Danatelians mean by makwa - it seems that divine blessings, or the sort of magic performed by priests and Sabeyun are not considered as makwa.

The origins of Makwa seem to be linked to the first uses of Blood of the Earth. Human consumption of the substance has brought them to discover they could seize magic for themselves, without having to rely on gods and other divine creatures.

What can makwa do? Drinking Blood of the Earth gives one the ability to see or sense magic. Consumers of blood of the earth describe it as a wide tapistry of energy, which binds and connects everything together. Some people or objects are tied more strongly to magic- a simple wooden chair has but a very small connection to magic, whereas creatures like Candlelights seem to almost radiate magic.

With enough practice and Blood of the Earth, some individuals find themselves able to nudge the weaves of magic around them. It is a slow and delicate craft, and mostly used in the crafting of objects infused with magic. Others find that they prefer to use magic in strong but brief waves, creating one large change that triggers powerful reactions. The later use of Makwa is very dangerous, and can lead to many unforseen consequences (see the destruction of X)

Must figure out: origins, daily use, how it relates to religion, etc. In large cities use of Makwa has grown more and more frequent, with a lot of money being invested in research to figure out how to obtain larger quantities of blood of the earth.
