Memories (and the loss of them) are key to ending miasma once and for all.

Structure

Exposition

Powerfull beings have always existed in the Asteral sea. Silvona, Krolm, Miona, and Raem are just examples of such beings.   Back when the material plane was empty, Krolm and Silvona created the world together, using materials gathered from the elemental planes. Much of what they did at first was in balance. When he made the land she made the adjacent sea. When Silvona made the mountain peaks, Krolm carved out the valley floor. One made the scorching summer, the other made winters frost. For six millennia they toiled together shaping the world. Then they began to fill it. At first with small things Allgie, worms, grass, fish, and moss. This brought them much joy and the reviled together in their creations, they called it Ardania.   As time passed the creatures and plants grew larger and more complex. Krolm found joy in making beasts to hunt, while Silvona preferred to walk among the serene beauty of the trees and flowers that she made. Krolm made ever larger creatures to hunt from Elk to Bears, then Panthers to Mammoths, then Giants, Dragons, and more. Silvona had no interest in Krolms accomplishments and self-admiration was not sufficient for his new Ego. Krolm made the Wildlings so that they may take joy in his creation and revere his might and skill.   When Silvona first found a Wildling it was chopping down a great tree she had made. This enraged her and she destroyed the creature before confronting Krolm, a brief fight (lasting 500 years) ensued that blanketed their creation in a great storm. To survive the Wildlfolk scattered, some hid under the ground, others went to the sea, and others took to the sky. To sooth the storm Krolm suggested that they make something together, much greater and more powerful than before. The result of this were their two children: Daughter Helia, the Eternal Sun and son Lunord, the ever-changing Moon.   As Helia and Lunord frolicked across the skies, the now diversified peoples of Ardania came out from hiding to watch with admiration. Generations had evolved and developed traits that suited survival where they had gone thus the wildfolk became the sentiant races. The new gods delivered many gifts — the gifts of civilization. Soon, many of Ardania’s people turned away from Krolm, in favor of the promise of these new gods. Krolm grew jealous and instructed his remaining faithful to forever shun the trappings of civilized life. He went north where he continued to make great beasts to hunt. Silvona tolerated the existence of the sentient races but would not allow them into her great fields, forests, or glades. She created Gorgons and Harpies to keep these areas free of "pests".   Despite their rivalry Helia and Lunord, came together to sire three (eventually seven) children. The eldest, who would become Grum-Gog, the Lord of Pestilence, managed a feat that his parents did not he created the races of trolls and goblins. The second child, Url Shekk, was cast into the netherworld by Helia due to his hatred for light. The third child, Rrongol, was mentally deficient and followed Lunord's every step until the frustrated god cast Rrongol into the mortal world.   As civilization evolved, so did the heavens. In the time of the great King Sydrian, Four new dieties where born of Helia and Lunord including: Krypta, Goddess of Death; Dauros, God of Law; Fervus, God of Chaos; and Agrela, Goddess of Life. These children vied for the spiritual allegiance of Ardania’s faithful.

Conflict

Helia, Lunord, Krypta, Dauros, Fervus, and Agrela gave their followers many gifts. With these gifts the sentient races were able to defeat the Gorgons and Harpies and enter the forbidden places to expand their existence. Enraged Silvona went to Krolm and told him they should destroy it all. Krolm still found some joy in his creations, and he showed Silvona that she did too. He would not help her, but he would not stop her from wiping it clean.   Silvona surched for a solution to the problem that would leave her precious plants and wildlife intact but would restrict the sentient beings from entering her wilderness. She found it in Miasma, it was a poison that seemed to only impact the sentient beings. Small amounts of Miasma existed deep underground in Ardania, she knew that it would not be enough. So she went to the Astral sea where it had originally been found. There she found the Meteor Parasite, brought to the world and crashed it into Mount Vellenge for Krolm to see.   Krolm asked Silvona how she had made such a thing, and she replied not made but found it out in the atseral sea. The idea of new titans for him to hunt was beyond exhilarating, he split off a small portion of his essence that he would leave behind to observe this world while he left to hunt these titans.   Silvona watched as the Miasma began to seep across the land, she was so intrigued watching the slow process that she never noticed the slow leaching from Raem or Miona practically dormant inside the meteor. The only thing they stole where her memories. Miona was awakened along with Raem, during the meteor impact that gave rise to the miasma produced by the Meteor Parasite. Both entities are dependent on the memories of living entities for sustenance.   Raem is a sadistic, metaphysical monster (and the main antagonist of the Chronicles, unseen untill the climax). Its existence is tied to the Meteor Parasite in Krolms Anvil, and it feeds off the memories of suffering which spawn Creatures of the Grimm in the miasma producing more memories of suffering, creating a never-ending cycle of pain and torment for the world's inhabitants.   Where Miona desires simply to "nibble on memories from time to time", leading to forgetfulness, while Raem consumes vast numbers of memories which he perceives, thereby if targeting a single person he eradicates all recollection. Raem remains stationary slowly feeding on the collective memories of everyone in the Miasma, but Miona is awake and travels the world.

Rising Action

The story unfolds as the players journey from territory to territory, talking with people and completing quests set before them. While traveling to gather Myrrh, a caravan may encounter other travelers, wandering monsters, or other settlements. These encounters further enhance the story and can be random or part of the story line. Each encounter is recorded in the caravans journal and is recorded as a memory. By piecing memories together, the player learns the history of the world, nature of the miasma, or locations of powerful artifacts depending on what they have seen.   The following plots feed into this one: Early Years
  • The Runaway Princess - A member of the caravan is secretly the missing Alfateria Princess
  • The War on Goblins - Goblins invade the northern settlement, the players must help recapture it
  • Rrongol the Hunter - A powerful being is hunting down caravans, the players must destroy it
  • Flight of the Fauns -
  Middle Years
  • The Black Knight - Once a man tried to ride the world of Miasma, he failed and is now chasing a light
  • The Source of Miasma- The World was not always covered in Miasma
  • The Crystal Tuner - A powerful artifact exist that will allow travel through Miasma streams
  • The Sphere of Power - a powerful artifact exists that could destroy anything
  • The Goddess Silvona

Climax

The characters know the truth, that Krolm and Silvona created the world, and that Silvona brought the Miasma to the world via a meteor. They must reach the place the meteor fell Krolm's Anvil, and find a way to either destroy the meteor (likely through the sphere of power) or to return it to the cosmos (via some way i haven't thought of).   At Krolms anvil they will be confronted by the reunited Titan: Raemio who will protect the meteor with its life.

Falling Action

Months later with some of her memories returned, Silvona devises a new scheme to limit the movement of the sentient races, she sinks all of the cities down into the under-dark. With very limited food, and no sun to grow crops the characters are forced to find their way to the surface to confront Silvona in a final encounter for the fate of civilization. Not having time to "assend to godhood" the players must find a way to end this without facing Silvona in combat.   Silvona dosnt have all of her memories back she think she remembers that the titan tricked her to bringing it to this world, since she was never "bested in combat". She recalls here disdain for the civilized races. She knows that her power is not as great as it once was. The players can: -Bring Krolm back -Return all her memories (using myrrh) and try to reason with her -Try to kill her (HAHAHAHAhahaaaaaa) -SOme other cool way i cant think of
