Fauns

Fauns are a nomadic people who value independence, family bonds, and freedom more than anything else. As a race they have very few "group values" outside of the family structure. Often seen as selfish they are looked down upon with scorn and mistrust by most others. Discrimination has forced many of them to make their living as laborers most "honest" Fauns find work as miners or farmers. The rest end of as thieves or other criminals often part of the temple to Fervas. There aren't very many Fauns living in the world today.

Anatomy

Fauns are a swift and acrobatic race similar to Humans, except for the fact that they share certain traits with animals. Some types of Fauns are more common than others, with some being extremely rare. Fauns with mammalian traits, in general, seem to be quite common. Fauns can only have a single physical trait in common with their animal.

Script You innatel understand the Faunic Script Darkvision With their animal chariteristics all Fauns have limited darkvision. You can see in dim light within 15 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Perhaps the single most unique trait of the Fauns overall is their natural language. At around four years old and beyond all Fauns are able to innately understand the Faunic script. Even Fauns who are illiterate in the common script can read the Faunic script. Oddly enough this script seems to alter slightly from year to year, making it almost impossible for non Fauns to to translate it. All Fauns young and old are all able to reliably read the script no matter when it was written. Most say the don't even see a change from year to year.

Common Etiquette Rules

Fauns dont care much about others outside of their family. Most families follow the extended family structure consisting of four or more adults who are related, either by blood or marriage, living in the same home. This family includes many relatives living together and working toward common goals, such as raising the children and keeping up with the household duties. Many extended families include cousins, aunts or uncles and grandparents living together.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Fauns do not have a good reputation among the other races. Many Fauns tend to be selfish, impatient, and wimiscal. Often resorthing to taking what they want rather than going trough the process of working for it. Fauns tend to gravitate to professions that require lots of movement and activity. Many find work in fields, mines, and quarries. Some find a place among divotees to fervous, joining his temple. Others find success in traveling families, these familial groups wander from city to city, performing at inns and taverns as bards or dancers, holding carnivals and celebrations. Fauns have an extremely rich culture that is not well known to outsiders. Rituals and traditions are passed on from generation to generation through their large nomadic families. Even mystic yokels and elven scholars cannot easily diciper the cryptic (and often family specific) Fauns speech and script.
