Garghisi

The Garghisi live west of Mornalith, across the Mornal Sea and into the Farther West. The Mornals call them the Little Folk or, more vulgarly, the Squatlings. They are a short people, rarely reaching five feet tall, with large potbellies that are supposedly hard as rock. Their arms and legs are oft called spindly, their eyes watery, and so many are born deaf that the Garghisi have a second language that they speak with their hands, usually at the same time they speak their vocal tongue. None of them speak the Kozha Trade Tongue, and scarcely any speak Mornal either. They appear to be a largely peaceful folk who cheerfully trade with the Mornals occupying the western coast of the Mornal Sea.   Given Mornalith's history, one cannot help wondering why they have not yet conquered and enslaved the Garghisi. They are said to be steady though unremarkable laborers, and indeed a few have either sold themselves into slavery or been taken for crimes (usually theft) whilst visiting the Mornal port towns, with evidently no outrage voiced from the Garghisi in mass. It has even been said that the Mornal port towns (Dafold, Mornalia, Csograd, and Amakochin) have invaded Garghisi land, yet still no objections are known. What then keeps the Mornals from washing farther inland, toward the great treasures and secret delights that supposedly fill the Farther West?
