The Church of the Akkantei

The Church of the Akkantei is an organization that worships explicitly the Akkantei, the draconic pantheon. They operate mostly in Balukthur, with their main headquarters being based in the city of Marthek in Maenor. The church operates beyond these borders, but in a minimal manner, since dragonborn are not a very common race, and they make up the majority of the members.

Mythology & Lore

In the beginning, there was the great Ninefold Dragon, Io. He existed before the multiverse within the unknowable expanse of the first void, from it creating a pocket of space and granting it the potential to exist and expand through the power of his own blood. He created the rest of the draconic gods through the power of his own life-force. Beyond this, none but the mighty World Shaper himself know what happened during the countless years that passed before the arrival of the rest of the gods.
Countless years later, Io fought the ancient and otherwise unknown god or goddess, Zotha. In this, Io wrapped his physical body around the crystal sun that Zotha had created and destroyed it with his breath. The crystals then shattered, with drops of his blood splashing down upon the universe, from which rose chromatic dragons. The greatest of these beings, in their despair, took a shard from the body of Io and slew themselves with it. Their blood spilled down and pooled with Io's, from which sprang the metallic dragons. At this point, Io stirred from his slumber.
During the Primordial War, Io was slain by the primordial king Erek-Hus when he used his giant adamantine ax to slice Io in half. However, before Erek-Hus could celebrate, the great gods Bahamut and Tiamat rose from the corpse of their progenitor and killed Erek-Hus. While Io was dead, his essence remained, allowing individuals to keep worshipping him and receiving divine power from him.
These two deities would come to be the prime deities of the Akkantei, being the most powerful. A number of the Akkantei were born before this event as well, creating the draconic pantheon, or the Akkantei.

The worship of the Akkantei varies greatly from god to god.

Priesthood

The priests of the draconic gods vary greatly in practice. Generally, all revere Io and pay tribute to him in their respective prayers to their main gods.
