Dzeer

A long horned ungulate that is common the the desert regions of Oristan.

Basic Information

Anatomy

A long horned ungulate native to the deserts of Oristan. The Dzeer is a family consisting of six species:

Meles - Named for its gentle curving horns. Native to southern Oristan.
Bogover - Named for its short horns, not exceeding 8" in length. Native to Northwestern Oristan.
Degeever - Named for its backward facing hooked horns. Native to Southwestern Oristan.
Shtobor - Named for its long spiraled horns. Native to Central Oristan.
Golor - Named for its short horns with an exceptionally smooth texture. Native to the grasslands and South Central deserts of Oristan.
Goloos - Named for it very long horns. Common to all parts of Oristan.

Ecology and Habitats

All Dzeer species prefer arid near-desert or grassland conditions and can survive without water for several days. They live in herds of up to 500. New born calves are able to run and keep up with the herd almost immediately after birth. Their horns are long and straight, except for the Saber Dzeer whose horns curve backwards with a gentle curve.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Dzeer eat several species of grasses, small shrub, and young leaves from trees.

The Dzeer has good vision and excellent hearing. A Dzeer will hear you well before it sees you.

Lifespan
Unknown, The Dzeers predators prefer the elderly, sick, and infirm so it is not known how long a Dzeer can live. Most live into their late teens before predation.
