Tuula

A species of desert rabbit found throughout northern Oristan.

Basic Information

Anatomy

A long eared Lepine native to the northern regions of Oristan. The Tuula is a family consisting of four species:

Rakhsuul - Black markings on tail, edges of ears, and paws
Bortai - Dark brown flecking coving entire body
Tagan - White fur covering entire body, very rare
Mysik - Brown with white belly and tips of ears

Ecology and Habitats

Tuula prefer arid desert and grassland conditions, although the Mysik prefers deep desert conditions found in the Zurkhetak Highlands. They live in underground burrow complexes of up to 200 individuals. They live in extended family groups and forage in small groups or pairs.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Tuula eat various grass species, small fruits and grains, and small insects.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The Tuula has excellent vision and hearing. The Tuula's whiskers are also very sensitive to vibration and air currents.

According Oristani legend the Tuula are in close connection with the spirit world and and have been told too many secrets by the spirits, hence their facial expression.
