Armorhead
Basic Information
Anatomy
Armorheads have their name from the thick bony armor which covers the entire head. Long tusks cover and protect the neck. The thick fur is shed during spring(usually at the advent of High Spring and regrown during Harvestmoon.
Armorheads have a thick grey or greysh brow skin, which is revealed once they shed their fur.
Genetics and Reproduction
Armorheads are Faeborn creatures, and thus rely on their personal Fae for procreation.
Formerly wild anmials, they have been tamed and domesticated, and have replaced Cows in many lands as a source for meat and milk. Nowadays they are mostly bred, although wild armorheads still exist in many regions.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Armorheads are herbivores, and can digest almost any plant, although they prefer thick grass or leafs.
Additional Information
Domestication
Armorheads have been domesticated and are used all over Ardu by most conscious and self aware species. They remain largely similar to their wild brtethren however. It does semm though as if the fur of domesticated Armorheads has gotten shorter over time.
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Wool
Armorheads (in regions where there is no Permafrost) shed their thick fur during the early spring to reaveal a greyish or black skin underneath. The fur can then be collected and worked into a fine silky wool which keeps warm even in the coldest winters. Due to their size and the fur only regrowing during winter they haven't replaced Sheep as a provider of wool fully.Leather
Armorhead hide is thick and yet lithe, which makes it a favourite material for tanners and Leatherworkers to work with. Most Leatherarmors and studded Leatherarmors are nowadays created from Armorhead skin, and are then often adorned by the Horns of the large animals for an extra martial effect. Sinews, if prepared properly, are often used for Bowstrings.Milk
Armorhead milk is slightly more thick than milk from the cow. It's taste is slightly bitter but it keeps naturally fresh longer than normal milk because of this. It is also, oddly, able to be digested even by people who usually have problems with milk and is not know to generate stomach aches with them.Meat and other foods
Armorhead meat is a bit sweet but at the same time hearty and best eaten medium rare. It is a base ingredient of many stews, just like the bonemarrow.Geographic Origin and Distribution
Armorheads are a standard cattle raised all over the world which have replaced the cows due to their richer, more nutrient milk, their thicker hides (which provide better leather) and their tasty meat in most places except the Ocean of Grass (where cows and Bisons have also acclimatized to the wild) and Haven, where the Cows are held due to religious reasons because of their ability for Seedbirth, which Armorheads do not share as they are Faeborn creatures.
