Armor of the Gods
Legends tell of a time when the gods have made known to the world their chosen holy warriors. Earliest recordings of these moments are few and far between but among those that still exist, they mention that during the year 50,750 F.O.E., forces from the Nine Hells and the Abyss sought to make Arelia a new addition to their perspective realms. Each sent an invasion force numbering in the millions. Initially, it is said that the two armies went to war with one another on sight, ignoring the mortals of the realm completely such was their hatred for one another. It seems the Blood War simply found a new battle ground with souls a plenty and ripe for the picking.
Some say the gods saw this and it was non other than the sister goddesses Arelia and Ameriel who informed their father, Yosren , and mother, Naki of the defilement of their new creation. Enraged, Yosren, the All Father, rallied all the gods and goddesses of the realm. Each chose their holy warriors and gifted them each with armor and weapons capable of defeating the legions of the Nine Hells and the hordes of the Abyss. Thus began what came to be later known as The War Of Souls. Their chosen warriors, rallied the mortals and lead a counter attack that left the devils and demons running in terror and hundreds of their kin were slaughtered before their eyes. All the races of Arelia united in one common cause with the chosen champions of the gods at their lead slaughtered the demons and devils by the thousands. Eventually pushing them back to the portals from whence they came. The portals could not be destroyed however. It was then the champions did the next best thing they could think of. Each champion participated in a ritual that would weaken the portals thus causing the horde of evil to be forced into a bottle neck. With only nine portals left, the land which they were opened was shielded from the demons and devils on the all fronts except for one. It was here the mortals of the realm placed permanent citadels and castles of defense and pledged to fight along side one another to stem the tide of evil no matter the cost. The ritual took it's toll however, each of the champions were sacrificed to accomplish the monumental ritual and keeps the fiends boxed in. It is said that shortly after this, the champions were brought back from the grasp of death as powerful angelic beings who each gave the mortals of the realm great gifts to aid them in the eternal battle against the forces of evil. Among them, the very armor and weapons they once wore themselves. The chosen warriors numbered 13 from each of the races of Arelia. Their armor was given over to the mortals for safe keeping while others were placed in sacred temples to the gods. Scattered and separated. It is said that only those chosen by the gods may even touch them as all others will instantly be killed outright. Some fear the day the Armor of the Gods is worn again. As some suspect that it will herald a great battle, the end times, the return to the Legions of the Nine Hells and the Hordes of the Abyss, or other cataclysmic event. Should that day ever befall us, may the gods help us all. For we shall most certainly be in dire need of them.
To date, some people claim that at least one piece from each of the armors are held within the holy vaults of Protos Naos. No one save the highest ranking of paladins and clerics know for certain though. Some suggest ancient temples to the gods hidden within deep forests, jungles, mountains, caverns, deserts and even within the ocean itself may hold one of these pieces. If any of it is true, no one has found them yet as historians claim there are far too many that have been constructed, before, during and long after the War of Souls. Perhaps one day a lucky adventurer may come upon it. Although many hope that day never comes.
