Mummy
Within the Kalahari Empire the Kalahari Elves / Desert Elves would seek out ways to preserve the knowledge of their people and culture from being erased by time and death. In their search, they sought out the aid from the Goddess of Death herself, Ameriel. Her Clerics prayed to her seeking her blessing as did the royal families of the Pharos. Death smiled upon them and Ameriel granted them an ancient and powerful rite that would call for the sacrifice of one to become a soul bound to their bodies for all time. The Pharos decreed he would not ask another to bear this burden and chose to do so himself. Thus the first Mummy was made. Lady Ameriel was moved by the selflessness of the Pharos that she decreed all of his bloodline who chose such a sacrificed would be rewarded upon the completion of their task and until then be bless by the Goddess of Death herself for all time.
As noble as the beginnings of Mummies were, mortals tend to muck things up as usual and a group of mortals seeking to serve the Demons of the Abyss or the Devils of the Nine Hells stole this sacred rite from the murdered body of a Cleric of Ameriel. Such was the fury of the Goddess that she gave them exactly what they wanted in ways they did not intend nor ever imagined. All were cursed to become Lesser Mummies bound to the will of the Mummy Lords/Ladies of the great Pharos' bloodline. An eternity of servitude until their minds were no more and even then, were simple, obedient slaves until destroyed. Seems that if there is anything worse than Death, it would be attempting to cheat Her.
