Population:
Approximately 5500; mostly mixed human, partly gnome and dragonborn.
Government:

Taton is governed by a consortium of wealthy merchants, nobles and samurai, known as the White Ministry. The Daimyo is said to be present in the castle whenever snow falls on its grounds.
Notable Places:
The Steel Crane Smithy: A series of buildings set on the side of a volcano where expert katana craftsmen create the famous Kakita Dueling Blades. Rumours say that the steel of these blades is forged within the volcano by an ancient giant swordsmith.
The Crane Clan Communications Hub: A school-like building containing multiple classrooms, scribing halls and braziers of flame bringing thousands of paper birds into the building every day.
The Shrine of Lady Doji: Hidden at the centre of a maze from the Sakura forest, a shrine to the creator of class in Kiga stands strong. Some say that laying a flower upon the shrine will grant you luck in love, though others believe it to be haunted by angry spirits.
Kakita Museum: The Crane Clan's collection of treasures and exotic wildlife is on display to any who cares to visit. Controversy often surrounds the artefacts and creatures donated to the museum, but its doors remain open nonetheless.
Kakita Duelists Academy: Famed duelists of the Crane Clan study here to hone their skills and maintain their reputation as the greatest sword wielders in Kiga. Students of this school often dye their hair white in honour of a legendary hero of the Crane.
The Pavilion of Metoro: A multi-storey kabuki theatre of timber and brick walls, said to be haunted by the ghost of a dancer.
The Hanyi Gate:
A ring of stone monoliths and arches, within which lies a permanent magical teleportation circle.
The Bank of Taton: Perhaps the most secure location to store your hard earned koku in all of Kiga, the grand bank holds the most valuable treasures of the Crane Clan and its allies.

Hu Xue: Female Elf Fighter, Good. Xue has copper hair and blue eyes. She wears plate mail and wields a bardiche. Xue seeks only fame and glory.
Chieu He-Baio: Male Human Fighter, Good. He-Baio has curly brown hair and light blue eyes. He wears splint mail and wields a bastard sword. He-Baio is haunted by the ghost of someone he killed.
Shiu Thay-Lu: Male Human Cleric, Good. Thay-Lu is heavyset, with matted copper hair and amber eyes. He wears splint mail and wields a club. Thay-Lu is erratic but loyal.
Chio Wei-Qiu: Female Human Thief, Neutral. Wei-Qiu has a long face, with tangled red hair and brown eyes. She wears leather armor and wields a long sword and sling. Wei-Qiu dislikes everyone except other humans.
Gao Bo-Jia: Female Human Paladin, Good. Bo-Jia is tall, with thick copper hair and blue eyes. She wears plate mail and wields a short sword and shield. Bo-Jia seeks the meaning of a strange prophecy.

The King's Stone:
It is said that the legendary rogue Hoe Ju drew the sword Astral Fury from this moss-covered stone and became king of an astral realm.
The Axe of Ice:
A grand commoner's tavern, built within what was once a sailing ship.
The Barracks:
A strong half-timbered building, a station of of the town guard. A stone statue of a god of fate stands in front of the building.

Tao Qui-Sa: Female Human Cleric, Neutral. Qui-Sa is tall and heavyset, with auburn hair and large hazel eyes. She wears splint mail and wields a hammer. Qui-Sa is cursed with chronic pain, and is searching for a divine relic which can break the curse.
Li Jai-Xu: Female Human Assassin, Evil. Jai-Xu has copper hair and brown eyes. She wears leather armor and wields a poisoned short sword and dagger. Jai-Xu is insane and lustful.
Yin Ji: Male Human Merchant, Neutral. Ji has a round face, with white hair and dark green eyes. He wears modest garments and carries a long knife. Ji has an animal companion, a sable ferret named Joe.
Ju Ki-Ruo: Male Human Fighter, Good. Ki-Ruo has grey hair and grey eyes. He wears chain mail and wields a glaive-guisarme. Ki-Ruo blames the gods for every misfortune.

Gao Huo-Khao: Male Dwarf Peasant, Evil. Huo-Khao is tall and willowy, with grey hair and brown eyes. He wears well-made clothing and carries a long knife. Huo-Khao has a black snake named Tsa.
Yun Shoa-Xiu: Male Human Craftsman, Neutral. Shoa-Xiu has copper hair and amber eyes, and a messy beard. He wears modest garments and riding boots. Shoa-Xiu has an animal companion, a grey rabbit named Hui.
Tu Koi-Zai: Male Human Entertainer, Neutral. Koi-Zai is rough in appearance, with thin red hair and grey eyes. He wears well-made clothing and carries a fine stiletto. Koi-Zai has an animal companion, a ginger ferret named To.
Ti May-Yan: Female Human Craftsman, Neutral. May-Yan has braided red hair and bright brown eyes, and small ears. She wears modest garments and riding boots. May-Yan is awkward and inventive.
Goldenlamp Farthing

Notable Places:

A two-storey building of half-timbered walls, the home and personal library of a female human sage named Hua Hoi. She specializes in the study of mythology and the gods.

A neglected elven tavern, decorated with monstrous skulls.

Ma Chu: Female Elf Fighter, Good. Chu is common in appearance, with silver hair and hazel eyes. She wears chain mail and wields a warhammer. Chu is studious and faithful.
Joo Chu: Female Human Aristocrat, Good. Chu has a round face, with curly blonde hair and narrow brown eyes. She wears fine raiment and carries a fine stiletto. Chu seeks to prove herself to her peers.
Huie Pei: Female Human Fighter, Evil. Pei is exceptionally beautiful, with red hair and sharp grey eyes. She wears banded mail and wields a battle axe. Pei is depraved but honorable.

Ge Gu-Lu: Male Human Fishmonger, Neutral. Gu-Lu has tangled blonde hair and brown eyes. He wears plain clothing and a wooden holy symbol. Its hard to picture Gu-Lu as an adventurer, but he wears an alchemist's pouch on his belt.
Chao Hiao: Female Human Thief, Neutral. Hiao has brown hair and soft green eyes, and small ears. She wears leather armor and wields a long sword and dagger. Hiao is said to be the best lockpick in town.
Pi To-Qui: Male Human Guard, Neutral. To-Qui has auburn hair and large grey eyes, and a thin nose. He wears studded leather and wields a military fork. To-Qui is known for his jeweled sword, a gift from the Lord Mayor.
