History of the Harenae kingdom

"We are the first great people to take back control of the world we inhabit, the dark days shall lie behind us as we build a new great Kingdom to exceed the powers of our oppressors. We will show the gods that we are no longer just pawns in their great game, we shall rise strong enough to challenge the gods themselves!!!"
- First King of Harenae Curculio Micius
The Kingdom of Harenae was an old kingdom founded by humans and gnomes a hundred years after their peoples' arrival to Ares. The kingdom was founded in the shaded savanna, and would over their long rein end up ruling most of the western region of Valles Marineris. The kingdom would fall around the sixth century but would lay the ground for the rise of the Kasei Empire.

The founding years (year ~122-180 PA)

Settlers migration; Western settlers   After the Acute fall, the survivors sailed the Desiccated water lands until they sailed through Calvis bay where they found a lush savanna. Here the people settled on the coast and named their city Eosos (meaning: Dawn), to symbolize their people's new beginning. To rule this city they founded a new kingdom.

A new dawn of men (year ~122-135 PA)

The Kingdom of Harenae was founded in the year 122, it was to be ruled by Curculio Micius, as the first King of Harenaesis. Under the king was Sedes Royal council, which acted as his consultants in governmental matters. The council consisted of 5, The King's hand, the Lord of Chrysos, The Lord of Homines, Lord Sophos, and Lord of Mars, each of them leading or consulting on major parts of government; King Counselor, Commerce & Treasure, People & City, History & Religion and War & Militia respectively. The lack of combating nations boosted the kingdom's influence and played the grounds for an immense expanse.   In the early years of Harenae, they started gathering local resources, create viable farming methods, construct the city of Eosos and explore the nearby territory. Before long their people had developed a great city, culture, new calendar, great farming fields, roads to their mines, and maps for their regions. The Kingdom of Harenae was quickly growing, and nothing was there to stop them.

Reunited with the Dune dwarfs (year ~130-150 PA)

In the early years of Harenae, they reestablished a connection with Prohibere, through constructing a pathway carved into the Mons Shelf. After the reunion, interest rose in reconnecting with the Dune dwarfs under the Ascreaus Mons.   An expedition was sent to Ascreaus to open relations with the dwarfs. When the expedition arrived at the dwarfs' majestic citadel under the Ascreaus mons, they were meet with awe on all the dwarfs had managed to mine out of the rock. Even with the abundance of minerals in the dwarfs' possession, they were struggling with many other resources such as food. This opened up an opportunity for the expedition party to take diplomatic action and start work on a treaty that could unite the Dune dwarfs with the Harenae kingdom. The treaty established was called The sand treaty, it allied the Dune dwarfs and Harenae kingdom. Harenae would establish a trade route to import goods to Ascreaus and in turn, the dwarfs would provide minerals to the kingdom.   The opening of the cross-desert trade resulted in the founding of the city Artis in year 145, positioned at the confluence of the Ascreaus and Pavonis river. This city would act as a trade center for the goods transported along the river.   The trade gave interest for the Harenae to begin expanding their mining operations. Harenae created a mass of mines along the Melas highland, known as the Argenti mines.

Wars of the savanna (year ~181-270 PA)

As Harenae established themselves as a great kingdom, with allegiance, resources, expansion and knowledge. Competitors, Gods and other threats took notice and created strifes in the savanna. For most of these years, Harenae worked on holding their power and influence in the region, finding ways to, again and again, defeat the threats to their kingdom.

The Gnoll invasion (year ~185-197 PA)

In the year 185, an evil demonic deity named Yeenoghu gave hyenas of the shaded savanna sentience. These new creatures were known as gnolls and their endless hunger lead to their gruesome savagery. The gnolls quickly began raiding the Argenti mines and multiple nearby settlements.   Harenae had to respond, first with prayers to Lathander that granted them more troops in the form of Loxodons and Minotaurs also transformed from animals in the savanna. Thereafter their prayers to Tempus gave them the strength to roster a great army of mercenaries to combat the monsters.   Harenae managed to push back the gnoll invaders and began the construction of fortification along the Phoenix Road. The gnolls were strong and underwent several retaliations resulting in many losses. After a successful pushback, the gnolls seemingly retreated to the savanna, thereafter the government of Harenae constructed the Salvus garrison as headquarters of the fortifications and offered bounty rewards for every proof of kill of a gnoll.   This lead to a large increase in mercenary bounty hunters that would over a few years almost eradicate all gnolls.

Human Exodus (year ~198-222 PA)

After the gnoll conquest, the new races began pouring into the city. Many Loxodons found status and purpose after the war, while the minotaurs became savage outcasts creating slums outside the city.   Many nobles did not agree with the immigration policies for all the beast folk. So several nobles decided to use their influence and power to move eastward to the green fields beyond the Melas highland. They then founded the colony of Portus Maar in the golden cove.   As the power of Portus Maar grew in the Melas green fields, the port wanted to become an independent city-state. This started a war with the Harenae Kindom, This became a 7-year war, with battles centered in the Melas Maar. By use of Portus Maar superior navy and tactics, they were able to overcome the Kingdom and get their independence in the year 222.

Bounty retaliation (year ~226-255 PA)

In the year 226 gnolls had retreated to the singing valley, taking hundreds of bounty hunters out of a job. As the bounty hunters lost their source of income, many of them turned to criminality and used their skills to raid wagons of valuables along the Phoenix road. After the war of independence, Harenae were lacking resources to be able to provide security for the eastern region.   The nobles of Salvus and Argenti were forced to make a deal with the rogue bounty hunter guild. The bounty guild now praying to Cyric and the Mask decided to use the opportunity to overthrow the rule of the eastern regions. They gained the allegiance of minotaurs and took over Salvus, allowing them to take control over the region. An expected retaliation from Harenae, made the bounty guild build reinforced fortification against Harenae.   After the bounty guild had taken over, the ones lucky enough to escape sought northward away from the shaded savanna. These people would eventually migrate up to the safe meadow and found several fishing towns in the region.

Harenae strikes back (year ~228-257 PA)

Harenaes' problems to the east put a slow halt to some of their trading efforts with the Dune dwarfs. A deal was then brokered to transport some dwarfs to the Enduro Hills to start new mining operations for similar materials such as Silver, sedimentary rock Gems, Iron, Coals, etc.   When the dwarfs came to the Eduro hills in 229 they were accompanied by a legion from Eosos, where they would settle the town Moggron (meaning: new mine). With the dwarfs' help, they could quickly start transporting goods back up the Melas maar to the capital, and then even further up to the dune dwarfs. After a generation of reestablished trade and renewal of resources and power, the Kingdom of Harenae started to build an army big enough to once again take over the eastern mining region.   Harenae launched a military operation in 255 to once again take back the guild rules region, lasting over 2 years the Harenae were able to take back the region. Prisoners taken from the conflict was forced into labour in the Argenti mines. Most occupants under the guild accepted the new rule and allied with Harenae. This lead to years of peace as Harenae got to establish a grounded rule in the shaded savanna.

Miners uprising (year ~260-269 PA)

As much trade developed from Harenaes new mining resources, the price of the mining operations was significantly decreased. This resulted in the dwarfs of Moggron taking control of their exports and enforce their own prices, because of The sand treaty Harenae were forced to bow to their demands. To keep up with the new prices Harenae decreased the eastern mines pay even more. The eastern mines responded with striking, stopping the mining operations until Harenae would satisfy their demands.   Instead of bowing to their demands, Harenae paid nomadic groups of minotaurs to take back control of the mines in favour of granting them civil status. This resulted in a brutal overtaking, but the minotaurs managed to take control and continue the mining operations. The undertaking meant that a lot more minotaurs settle in the region, and helped increase Mining production. The sudden increase in power of the region also leads to Salvus change to a bigger city in the region. The many minotaurs also lead to the construction of a colosseum called The ring of Salvus, an entertainment/fighting ring established in Salvus where great fighters could show their worth.

100 years of peace (year ~270-400 PA)

As the Harenae had established their dominance, many years of peace have been recorded in history, from around year 270 until 370. In the Safe meadow to the north, the land of Tutis had developed through the alliance of regional fishing cities. The land of Tutis would remain in control of the region north of the Melas Highland, and would over the hundred years start expanding up in the Heitrland. To the south, the Dwarf would rule the city of Moggron, but a trade route would still be kept to Eosos. Settlers would also start expanding further south into the forgotten fields, establishing colonies in allegiance to Harenae.   Over this time, many new smaller towns and villagers would pop up in Harenaes territory, mostly situated along the trade routes. The rise in population and settlements created small skirmishes all over the country, but Harenae always managed to keep their hold over the regions and snuff out any skirmish before it would escalate.   During this time a rise to what has become known as adventures happened. These were freelance work/mercenaries for hire, they spread across the land being able to take care of almost any small skirmishes. Even though these people had developed from the time of the Bounty guild, the Harenae could now neglect their influence to keep the peace in their lands. Harenae started to construct governmental paid guilds to collect quest and funds for the adventures.   Over many years the guilds split into several groups, some becoming independent running private institutions. Examples include:
  • Twilight Champions
  • The blueguard
  • The eternal alliance
  • Widows of virtue
  • The War of the dead (year ~512-521 PA)

In the Safe meadow to the north, the land of Tutis had developed through the alliance of regional fishing cities. The land of Tutis had expanded all the way over to Mons turn, and down to Harenae Kingdom's border. During the years of peace, the Land of Tutis had grown in size, its borders reaching all the way up to Kharrn crater. They had founded several cities along the coast, many of which had trade routes going to the eastern city-states.   Within their borders at the settlement of Imy, arcanists had been experimenting on magical use of the gems mines at the site. The Arcanists found ways to been the weave by the use of naturalistic energy found within the gems, this leads them to also experiment with the use of naturalistic energy found in plants and animals. This type of magic became known as necromancy, quickly the mages became experts at utilizing this type of magic.   One sage took over and became emensly powerful in the use of necromancy. The sage Vecna found a way to make himself immortal and become the first Lich in Melas. Over the next years he raised an army of undead and began conquering Tutis.   In Tutis desperation they pleaded to have Harenae intervene, after long years of war, only the traitorous actions of Vecna's right hand man was able to eliminate vecna and end the war.   After the war; Tutis and Harenae enganged in a treaty where Harenae gained access to military access in their borders, but Tutis kept diplomatic control.
