Broken Kingdom of Liu

((COPIED FROM DISCORD)) (Real-world analog(s): Three Kingdoms Era Ancient China, but a bit more apocalyptic) The Broken Kingdoms, when whole, had been the ancient seat of power within the eastern world. It had dominated wide swaths of Arethel for centuries until, like many great empires of its day, it began to rot away from the inside due to the greed, corruption, and constant in-fighting of its many dynastic rulers. When the great empire split apart, it broke into three separate countries, all vying for power with the intentions of reuniting the nation once more under a new dynasty. Those are the Kingdoms of Sun, Cao, and Liu.
The civil war has been long, and still with no true end in sight, the land now has lasting scars from its decades of continuous civil war. Droughts have rocked the country to its core, while famine, disease, and war continue to take the lives of the wretched people that live there, eking out what living they can.
No longer over whom might truly hold the Mandate of Heaven, and should thus be considered a divine ruler, the people fight over far more basic things. The ability to survive, to cultivate a living, freedom from tyranny, and food or water--both of which are coveted resources.
But not everywhere in the country fares quite so terribly. The villages lucky enough to be set away from the front lines of battle live very much the same lives they’ve lived for thousands of years. The very wealthy continue to live lavishly in their estates behind walled cities, well-guarded against the mobs of soldiers that would otherwise turn their worlds upside down if the gates of their cities fell. And the rulers of all three countries continue on with their campaign, eager to see the other two fall so that they might rise.
