The Star Alliance

The Star Alliance are a military unit that acts in alliance with the Cosmic Order of Unification, with the goal of protecting the people of the Excess and keeping order among the stars. The alliance works outside of the law of any COU allied space, and serves beneath an entity called the Star Queen, who both founded and manages the alliance.   Though the Star Alliance has been incredibly helpful in the protecting the Excess, having defeated plenty of threats throughout it's history, and preserved the lives of thousands if not millions, many people see them in an incredibly negative light. Smaller nations or planets may not see it this way, but more populated settlements disapprove of many of the Alliance's practices, such as their recruitment style, and their liberal use of their third party enforcement rights.

Composition

Manpower

The Star Alliance is one of the most powerfully staffed military forces in all of the Excess, with numbers in the thousands of Star Guardians across the galaxy. The Alliance is known for it's constant and consistent recruiting effort, scanning every known world for young souls deemed as pure, and offering them the opportunity to dedicate their existence to protecting the galaxy from those that threaten the peace.

Equipment

Within the Alliance there are many different branches with different methods and styles of equipment depending on the origin and racial influences in the area. Where areas closes to Argent have more standard seeming gear such as magical firearms and simple armor, in places more distant, you'll find more biological magic, the use of alien companion creatures, and less conventional weaponry.   A universal standard though, is a special armament called a Weapon of Hope. These can take the form of nearly any weapon the user chooses, and have the ability to cleanse a creature stricken with fear and doubt's mind of their negativity and refocus their thoughts on the future. Another very common standard are small crystals for long distance communication called Star Beacons. These items are functionally identical to Sending Stones, but are made of rare crystals and enchanted on mass by the Alliance.

Vehicles

Unlike other militaries within the Excess, the Star Alliance doesn't field any sort of navy. Instead, they enchant their soldiers with the ability to both survive in and quickly traverse the stars in a way similar to that of an starfaring vessel's FTL jump, but without the need for large or bulky machinery. This does mean that the alliance is known for it's direct and fast strike force style of engagement, quickly dealing with larger commanding vessels from the inside, and working from there.

Structure

The Star Alliance was founded in wake of the Star Queen having already been choosing chosen guardians of hope and sending them on tasks to protect the innocent. The Cosmic Order of Unification approached her and offered her both resources and influence, and so she agreed. There is a tree of command based on the tier of ones rank within the Star Alliance, with each rank having influence over different numbers of others and after great achievement, even entire sectors of stars fall under their individual responsibility.

The Ranks of the Star Alliance

Command Rank: D

Initiate

Chosen of the Star Alliance, these recruits are chosen adolescents with pure souls and hearts of gold. These children are then gifted the power of the Star Queen, and brought into the Alliance for training. Initiates often have partners who they train alongside, working alongside a Star Warrior during their training period.

Command Rank: C

Guardian

The most common rank among the Alliance, Star Guardians are the foot soldiers of the Alliance's military effort. When an Initiate graduates and earns the rank of Guardian, their duo is put with another, making a team of four. Guardian teams are almost always set in fours, and these guardian teams are sent on missions by their local alliance leaders, or find themselves called to combined military efforts when needed.

Seeker

Some initiates are just as fit to protect the Excess, but not always in the same way. Those who find themselves in less combat oriented roles find themselves as Seekers. Where Guardians begin going on missions nearly immediately after their graduation, Seekers are instead put under an Operative, doing whatever is needed as they work towards a higher rank.

Command Rank: B

Agent

When a Guardian proves they are both more successful and more capable alone than with a group, they're moved into the position of Agent. Agent's are the only independent units within the Alliance, and are often high impact heavy hitters or extremely talented gathers of information, taking the role of one man squads, or deep cover spies.

Operative

Leaders in intel and the distribution of it, Operatives work alongside their Seekers to keep the Star Alliance informed. Operatives have between 4 and 10 Seekers under them at any given time, and focus on collecting, compiling, and distributing information.

Warrior

The elite alternative to Guardians, Star Warriors still work in groups, more often of four, and go on missions assigned to them by the alliance. The only additional responsibility is the occasional need to spend months away from their teams to train Initiates. Unlike Guardians, who often spend their whole career in the same team, Warriors are expected to be able to adapt to new teams at a whim, and so are often replaced or reorganized to best suit different missions.

Command Rank: A

Captain

These soldiers are the most adept leaders in the Alliance, with the responsibility of managing and maintaining an entire star sector of the Alliance. They often have their own personal Caller, a team of Operatives, and many teams of Warriors and Guardians that fall into line at their command.

Crusader

Incredibly dangerous soldiers, focused on combat skill rather than leadership. Star Crusaders are renowned for their great feats during war times. Single Crusaders are known to have abilities as powerful and incredible that tales of one who could split a planet in half with a single punch, or single handedly bring entire Titan sized vessels to a complete stop with their magic and strength alone.

Caller

Known for their pure white, pupil-less eyes, Star Callers are those who choose who are worthy of the Star Queens magic. They are gifted with sight beyond sight, having the ability to see every soul in perfect detail within a lightyear of them. Callers find themselves riding a tough line between defending important locations, and scanning the Excess for those with souls pure enough to join the ranks of the Alliance, changing role at their Captain's command.

Command Rank: S

Dragon

One of two top ranks within the Alliance, a Star Dragon is a creature with such a righteous and intense soul that the sheer inspiration and hope exuded by them manifests in an aura of pure life around them. Though they can focus and suppress it, Dragons are known for the bright colored draconic shaped aura that manifests around them. Dragon's fulfill a similar independent role that crusaders do, but without needing to fall under the command of a Captain, given the trust and responsibility to be where they feel they need to be, when they need to be there.

Ruler

The Alliance separates each of the seven regions of the Excess into many smaller sectors. Star Rulers command over these regions, holding responsibility and command over every Alliance member in every sector of their region. These Rulers are often granted the title in the wake of a previous Ruler passing, or retiring, but it's not entirely unheard of for an early succession to be declared by the Star Queen herself.
