People
People are any and all beings who
- have opposable thumbs
- use tools consisting of 2 or more parts
- have one or more forms of language (spoken, written, sign, etc.)
Beyond that, people look all sorts of ways, depending on the traits that they developed during the generations of enforced isolation on the islands. Skin from pale ivory to deep onyx, hair in every color of the rainbow, as well as eyes. Ear shape, facial details, skin and hair texture all evolved during the isolation.
After the isolation, when trade resumed, it was only the strength of storytelling, through oral traditions, written traditions, pictoral traditions, that people remembered the times before the isolation. Still, there was fear as they encountered each other, each looking so different from the next. But stories are strong, and handed down for generations of generations, thousands of years, they lasted and persisted, and the people knew each other as cousins from long ago.
